Reconfiguring Tape Library Partitions
I recently took over admin duties at a company running Backup Exec 2010 using a Dell TL4000 tape library with two drives and 44 tape slots. The previous admin is gone but left the TL4000 partitioned with5 partitions. The first two each have one slot, the next two have three each and the remaining slots (9 through 44) are in the last partition. I need to change this configuration but I'm wondering what effect the changes would have on existing jobs that use the current configuration...will they update automatically? I don't want to make any precipitous changes that could cause problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Solved1.5KViews0likes7CommentsReady; No idle devices are available
I'm new to Symantec Backup Exec as I've taken over the duties of someone else that left the company. The problem that I'm having is I can't get Backup Exec to backup anything, not to tape, not to a shared drive, etc.. Logically I would have thought the issue was that the previous employee had used his account for all Symantec functions, I was able to change his account information for all the services and the connection to the server. Everything appears to be fine, I'm able to do a Test Run without any problems but when I go to do a backup I don't receive any alerts I just get a message that says "Ready; No Idle devices are available". Same result no matter where I try to backup to. Anyone seen this before, have any suggestions of how I can fix it? We're using Backup Exec 2012 S1a. Migrated our BE 2012 server using the steps in the article below. We moved from a Win2K8 R2 Enterprise OS to Win2K8 R2Standard OS for licensing reasons. Everything seemed to migrate successfully except for the storage devices which are simply network drives/shares. In the BE console on the new BE server, the storage pools, that were on the old BE server, are there and the properties of the storage pools show the related storage devices. The problem is that the storage devices do not show up as individual devices on the storage tab of the BE console, so I cannot edit the properties or even use them with the migrated backup jobs. I tried renaming the old BE server and taking it offline, then renaming the new BE server to the old BE server name, but I could not log into BE using the old or new name after that. I put the new name back into place so now I'm back at square one again. I thought about just configuring new storage devices with new names but I'm concerned about how that will affect my ability to restore existing backed up data that is on these drives. Ideally, I would like to get some help on how I can get this migrated BE server to recognize the storage devices again. https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH129826.html Thank You, RA907Views0likes3CommentsDisk backups - automatic removal of expired files
I have a large disk storage that I do my backup to disk on then from there, backup to tape. I have an expiration date of 5 days. Question, what program does this cleanup and why does it work sometime and not other times?? Also, is there a place that you can set this program to run (specific date)? Hello, We have this error from time to time, but it usually fixes itself without any end user intervention. However I am getting this error three nights in a row now on one of our domain controllers. This started happening on Wed morning, and continued through Friday morning. In all three instances the error message in the log is: Job ended: Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 1:18:54 AM Completed status: Failed Final error: 0xe0008488 - Access is denied. Final error category: Security Errors For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-33928 Errors Click an error below to locate it in the job log Backup- \\dc1.domain.com\System?State V-79-57344-33928 - Unable to complete the operation for the selected resource using the specified options. The Active Directory, Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) or Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS) database was not found. So I checked the selections and under the server in question, I can see System State > Active Directory > C:_WINDOWS_NTDS, and this is all checked off. I did a test Resource Credentials for everything in this backup and it all returnedsuccessfulso I'm at a loss. Under Settings > Microsoft Active Directory for this job properties we have all three boxes checked (GRC, Consistency Check, Continue if Consistency check fails.) Hi folks, I have been using a Dell PowerVault 124T with Backup Exec 11d for nearly three years and although the autoloader works well, I have had one issue that I have never been able to solve - or solve to what I believe to be satisfactory. :-) When our scheduled backupfills thefirst tape (LTO3) it will not run onto another tape without manually scanning the slot that the tapeis located- its as if Backup Exec/Autoloader doesn't see the tapes that are there. It will always start the backupandfind/use thetape in slot 1, but it will never look at the other slots for tapes unless I do the manual scan when I get the error message asking me to insert media. I have got around this by running a manual scheduled job that uses the bemcmd command that carries out an inventory of the specified slots before the backup runs - this then allows the backup to complete fine as it knows the tapes are there. I do have to be careful with this command though as if you set it to inventory all slots and the slots are not occupied with tapes, the inventory will fail and then the backup won't start. I guess my question is - should Backup Exec check the slots for tapes if you haven't run an inventory before a job starts? If so, is there any idea why I have the above problem when jobs go over the first tape? If not, then I know running an inventory before the job starts is the correct procedure - it just doesn't seem right as I would expect Backup Exec to do a scan of the slots before/during a job if it needs a tape. :-) Thanks for all your help Rob1KViews1like8Comments"the query for ResourceContainer failed" BE2012 - Clean Install
Hi All, just want to share the problem i have with BE 2012. It is a clean fresh installation on clean newly installed Win2008 R2 SP1 (all pre-checks passed fine). After remote push of 2 agents and creation oddedupe folder, the console reports error in lower left corner of the screen saying : "The query for ResourceContainer failed". The result is that nothing is visible inside GUI anyomore (groups, agents, jobs...). Debugging shows : MANAGEME: [03.27.12 15:00:28] [0000] ERROR: Reason: DataAccess DataAccessBEServer QueryResourceContainer: caught an exception:Invalid column name 'finaljobstatus'.. Any ideas? Ayone seen this before? Thanks. All the best, KresimirSolved5.8KViews1like13CommentsBackup remote server to remote tape drive (BackupExec 12 / 2010)
Hi All, I had a look around but could not find a simple yes/no answer to this question. Basically I have a server in a datacenter with an attached tape library that I would like to back up with Backup Exec. I also have a server in our office which backs up the mail, AD and etc.. to a smaller tape drive.. I change this tape every day. I would like to setup BE on the server in our office to backup the email and etc.. to the locally attached tape drive. I would then like to have seperate jobs which backup the server in the datacenter to the tape library (which is attached to that server, not the main media server) using the remote agent. Is this possible, or must all tape devices be attached to the media server (in which case I need to seperate installs of Backup Exec to give me a media server in the data center and a media server in the office)? Currently running BE 12.0 with plans to upgrade to 2010 soon. Thanks!Solved2.2KViews0likes5CommentsV-79-57344-65245 error trying to backup system state

Hello to all, I have recently setup an Hyper-V failover cluster with 2 brand new servers configured as clustered nodes along with a CSV storage. THe cluster is working great, the failover works fine, and I can Live Migrate Virtual Machines as much as I want. However I am running into a Backup issue. My Backup software is Backup Exec 2010 R3. I have installed the backup agent on my 2 failover nodes. In the backup job selectionI can see my cluster refered as Hyper-V-Cluster1 , and underneath I see C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1 , and also Microsoft Hyper-V-HA Virtual Machines , with my Virtual Machines listed. So far so good. The problem is that , when selecting VMs under Hyper-V HA , the backup will fail for all the VMs stored on the node which is not the storage Owner Node. For the owner node the VMs are backedup properlyas long as I choose the following Advanced Open Fileoption: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service => Automatic, Allow Vss to select the snapshot provider. But for the VMs on the NON storage Owner node the job will failed with the following error: - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "VRTSRV::\\HyperV-Cluster1.xxx.local\Hyper-V?HA?VM\VM1". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). V-79-10000-11230 - VSS Snapshot error. Unable to get minimum quiet time for physical volumes. Reduce the activity on these volumes, or wait and run the backup when there is less activity on the volumes. The following volumes are dependent on resource: "C:" "C:\CLUSTERSTORAGE\VOLUME1" . I cannot back up VMs stored on the non owner Hyper-V host ( node). I tranfered this VM on the Owner node, andthen the backup works just fine. So I would like to know how to backup all my VMs stored on the other node. Besides , in the job selection, if I choose my VM from the C:\Clusterstorage\Volume1 instead of selecting it from Hyper-V HA , it works fine too. So I am also wondering what is the difference between choosing Hyper-V HA , and C:\Clusterstorage I am adding a picture below, so it makes more sense. Thank you for your answers !4.5KViews6likes11Comments
