BackupExec 2010 dropping tape drive offline
Hi, This is a new topic to re-open the issue discussed here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/tape-drive-goes-offline-second-backup Just to recap on the issue itself: Running BE2010 Trial on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64. Hardware is Dell R710 rack server, connected to a HP Ultrium 1760 LTO4 SAS drive via a Dell PERC 6/E SAS Adaptor card. This is what’s happening: Setup and run a backup job with full verify. I’ve tested up to a 250GB job and it completes fine the first time around. After completion of first job, rerun the same backup job (after tweaking the media overwrite/append etc settings) The job immediately fails, reporting the drive as offline – cannot bring drive back online using BackupExec administrator Close BackupExec administrator, restart BackupExec Device/Media service (which also restarts associated service dependencies). Re-open BackupExec administrator - drive appears to be online again, ready for another job to be kicked off. I’ve completely replaced: Numerous LTO tapes The Dell SAS adaptor that connects the Dell server to the HP rack chassis The HP Rack chassis that houses the 1U internal HP LTO4 Ultrium 1760 SAS drive, SAS adaptor board and all The internal HP LTO Ultrium 1760 drive itself We’ve verified that all above component drivers and firmware are fully up to date. This problem occurs with both Symantec Tape Drive drivers and HP's official LTO4 tape drivers, To me, the following facts suggest that the problem lies with BackupExec itself: After the drive goes offline, a simple restart of the BackupExec services seems to bring it back online again If the drive goes offline, and I stop the BackupExec Device/Media service, I can still access the drive using HP LTT utility, and HP Data Protector Express – only BackupExec detects the drive as offline. We’ve replaced all possible hardware components and the problem still remains This problem only ever occurs with BE, I'm testing with HP Data Proctector Express and MS's Data Protection Manager - all work fine. Luckily, I haven't bought a license for BackupExec yet, however this means I doubt Symantec Support will be willing to spend too much time on it, so I might be forced to go with MS's Data Protection Manager instead if I can't get a resolution soon. Has anyone seen/resolved this issue before? AlistairSolved8.8KViews1like40CommentsMount failed Error
Job Completion Status Job ended: Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 9:00:06 AM Completed status: Canceled, timed out The job was automatically canceled because it exceeded the job's maximum configured run time. Errors Click an error below to locate it in the job log - Error - Mount failed. Operation aborted Alright, so my daily backup to a tape drive job is failing. It's returning the above error. When I go into the event logs on my server, it stands out to me that I'm getting a File Replication Service error. it is Event ID 13568 which claims "The File Replication Service has detected that the replica set "DOMAIN SYSTEM VOLUME (SYSVOL SHARE)" is in JRNL_WRAP_ERROR." Seems like these two things might be related, but I'm not sure. At this point I have a few questions: Which error is causing the other, or are they completely seperate? What does "Mount failed" entail, the Tape backup drive or the harddrives? And of course, What can I do to fix this?Solved5.1KViews0likes3CommentsBackup Exec 2012 Tape Media Label and Description
Hi. I have problem with LTO3 tape media labels and descriptions in Backup Exec 2012. If I manually edit Media Description (Right click on tape media), everything works. But after backup job writes to this tape, Media Description is deleted. The same problem is when I tried "Label Media", but it would be enough just Media description for me....Solved3.5KViews1like23CommentsCannot connect to Backup Exec 2012 Sever
I just recently uninstalled Backup Exec 12.5 and installed a fresh copy of BE 2012. I did not run into any errors when installing. I restarted the server but I cannot login to the BE server. When I try to log in I get this error... "Could not connect to server DC01.domain.local. Check that the server name and login credentials were entered correctly and that Backup Exec services are running on the server. The BackupExec Management Service was unable to start. Data Source: BEDB Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection." When I change the name of the server from DC01.domain.local to just DC01 I get this error.... "Login failed The login credentials specified appear to be invalid. The server has rejected the client credentials." I started BEUtility.exe, changed the service account to bckupexec, restarted and it still will not allow me to log in. I made sure that user was part of the domain admins group but I still cannot log in. WTF is going on? This was a fresh install and it is not working??? The program is installed on a domain controller. There is no firewall/anti virus running. Please help, I cannot go much longer without a backup and I dont want to uninstall, reinstall BE 12.5. After my Update to Backup Exec 2012 I wanted to try using Off Host Backups for our file server. The data is stored on a Dell Power Vault MD 3000i and I am using the newest hardware snapshot provider from Dell: SmVssProvider (Version 10.80.10). I also want to use True Image Restore and therefore created a backup job with the "using catalogs" option. Now I ran into the following issue: I created a backup job with "using catalogs" and the hardware snapshot provider. Full and incremental jobs seem to work fine. If I change the job definition to use the Offhost feature the full backup job runs way faster but I get the following warning for incremental jobs: "The Windows Change Journal is unavailable or incomplete. This resource will be backed up without using the Windows Change Journal." If I understood correctly this means Backup Exec has to use the catalogs instead of the NTFS change journal leading to a significant performance impact. Can anybody help me finding the reason for this issue?Solved3KViews0likes10CommentsError E0009B61 when running backup jobs
I've got a server running SBS 2008. It's completely updated, and so is Backup Exec. I'm running Backup Exec 12.5 on it. When it runs the nightly backup jobs it's getting the following error "Job ended: Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 11:42:24 PM Completed status: Failed Final error: 0xe0009b61 - The logon account that was provided does not have valid credentials. Ensure that the user name and password are correct, and then try again. Final error category: Security Errors" The strange thing about it is that it's intermitent. Two weeks ago we only had one sucessful backup. The week after, each backup completed sucessfully. The backups failed twice in a row on Tuesday, and Wednesday. When I look at the properties and test the credentials it always comes back sucessful. I've run test runs of the backup jobs and each of the test runs completes sucessfully. . I've checked permissions for the backupexec, and they are all set properly. I've even tried removing and recreating the account. Does anybody have any idea what the issue may be, and how to resolve it? Thanks!2.9KViews0likes3CommentsHow to test an Export job
Hello All, I have the following small annoying issue. I have created last month some simple backup jobs (backup from disk to tape), that at the end of the verify exports the tape into the I/O slot of our DELL TL2000. Since a day or two, the backup runs fine, but the export does not occur: Tape is still in the magazine slot and the status of the export job is Ready; invalid Storage device. Strange because this exporting went well before. The only thing that has changed is the location of the tape library which has been moved to the rack. I am pretty sure that all the cables has been connected as before (this time I was a cable labeling freak when i moved the hardware). So in short: backup runs fine; tape is not exported at the end. This is what i have done so far: I have modified the job once and removed the export "thingy" from the job. Saved the job. Then I modified it again, put again the export in. The export job number is now 0009 (before it was 0004). (I have some monthly and weekly jobs too that do the same) I restarted the tape library and the services. I hope it will runs fine tonight, but i want to know now if it will goes wel, so I am trying to test the exporting. But i cannot determin the right testing procedure. Using the webinterface of the of the TL2000 - i have put a tape in the drive (the right drive - I checked the serial number ) but i cannot seem to let BE2012 recognize that there is a media in the drive (inventory does not do the trick). And i think it is pointless to start an export if there is no tape in to drive ? Is it possible in BE2012 to just put a media in the drive, without doing anything else with it ? So that i can start my export job and see how it runs ? I hope anyone can shed some light and help me think of a way to test may export job and solve my problem. Thank you Kind Regards Els M2.7KViews0likes16CommentsBackup Netapp CIFS Shares with BE2012
I have just installed BE 2012 to backup my newly installed Netapp FAS 2220A. When I try to add a new job on the Netapp filer name it does not recognize the username/password but can see Netapp as a server and Access is denied ( full access for everyone is configured on the Netapp share ). It is Keep on asking for a username/password even after providing the domain admin account. If I try to access the same name\share of the Netapp from Run command I can access it without any problem. Good morning. For the last few weeks we keep getting the following Alert: Storage Information message on our BackupExec 2012 server. The following event was reported on 11/30/2012 10:10:13 AM: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom1. -------------------- This error signifies controller errors. These errors are generally caused by hardware that is not functioning correctly. To resolve these errors, try the following actions: - Slow the SCSI bus. - Verify that the latest SCSI drivers and firmware are loaded. If these errors continue to occur, contact the hardware manufacturer. This message happens every 15 minutes, to an hour. Even when there is no backup job running or any activity on the Backup Exec server. I have tried disabling the CR Rom drive in device manager, but this does not solve the problem. (Besides, I don't think having to disable a CD-ROM drive is a valid solution) This message used to say \Device\RaidPort1 until the 27th November where it changed to CDRom1 on the 30th November. No hardware changes have happened at all over the last 2 months. The server is fully uptodate (Windows Updates). Backup Exec is fully upto date (Live Update) The TapeDrive is a Dell PowerVault 124T (LTO4), The server is a Dell PowerEdge R610 running the latest firmware and drivers. The OS is Windows 2008 Server R2 (SP1) X64 Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks Lee2.4KViews1like4CommentsNetwork setings missing from vm restore
We are currently busy performing a live DR test of all our prod servers consisting of 2003 and 2008 Windows servers. The 2003 servers restore no problem. The restore job for the 2008 servers also finish successfully. However when starting up the 2008 servers it no longer hav ethe same network settins that it had when being backed up. We ran a similar test last year following the same procedure in which all servers restored no problem. We are currently runing BackupExec 2010 R2. In the virtual environment the only thing which changed is that we upgeaded from ESX\ESXi 4.1 U1 to 4.1 U2 at which time all NICs were upgraded to vmxnet3. The NICs seem to have loaded with default settings. IP6 on and configured for DHCP as apposed to IP4 on with the original IP configured. Has anyone else experiance this or have an idea on how to resotre these 2008 servers without having to reconfigure all the network settings?Solved2.3KViews7likes4Comments
