Hello All, I'm getting issue about Backup Exec Server 2012 version 14.0 rev. 1798 (64-bit), from my customer. The BE Server have failed to backup, then showing error code E0009B61. And then, it showing alert is reported in the Event Viewer's Application Log with Event ID 58060 : "Backup Exec Alert : Please insert media into the portal." . When I click for this solution, I get the solution in the following article regarding this : http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH23207 The solution on the article is : Place the tape requested into the robotic library portal and respond to the alert in Backup Exec. But, I don't know where the place of the tape and how to place the tape into the robotic library portal? What must I do to solve this problem? Note : the pc machine is Windows Server 2012 DatacenterSolved908Views3likes5CommentsBackup of large disks with BackupExec
Hi I have upgraded to Backup Exec 2012 and want to backup a file server. Disk to disk. The amount of data I need to have backed up will vary between 8 og18 TB. My backup server has 24TB capacity. As I understand it is recommended to use the full backup and incremental in a cycle. Because of the amount of data, I would never get the opportunity to have two simultaneous full backups on the backup server. To delete a full backup to make room for a new full backup means that the data will be unsecured the time it takes to make a new full backup. Not a good solution. What is the best practice? My goal is daily backup of the file server and keep the data three months after the original files have been deleted from the file server. Should I have an other version of BackupExec? Have previously used BE Continuous Protection Server. Suggestions received with great thanks RoySolved641Views0likes2CommentsBackup Netapp CIFS Shares with BE2012
I have just installed BE 2012 to backup my newly installed Netapp FAS 2220A. When I try to add a new job on the Netapp filer name it does not recognize the username/password but can see Netapp as a server and Access is denied ( full access for everyone is configured on the Netapp share ). It is Keep on asking for a username/password even after providing the domain admin account. If I try to access the same name\share of the Netappfrom Run command I can access it without any problem. Any idea where is the problem. ApurSolved2.6KViews2likes13CommentsBE 2012 and Data Domain w/ DDBoost
Background: So we have Backup Exec 2012 and two Data Domain DD620's. We have all the required licensing including the Data Domain DD Boost and replication licenses. I have installed the Open Storage Technology (OST) plugin 2.5.0.3 as suggested for the version of BE. Both DD boxes are visable and connected to my BE server. I have foud some documentation and a video that explains some of what I am looking for but not entirely and most of it is for BE2010. The BE 2012 documentation from DD is not up to date yet. I am trying to setup backups as my tape drive has had enough and is not working properly. Anyone I have talked to just says you backup to it, then I continue finding little things that need to be done. No verify, no precompression, some said no deduplication in the job, other said server side dedupe because DDBoost manages it with OST plugin. Too much information and not enough people knowing what to tell me. The DD weekend support guys don't know the software titles they just know the hardware. I need help now unfortunately... Question: What settings do I use for Backups? I have Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, and SQL agents.6.5KViews1like32CommentsHow to efficiently separate full, incremental and differential
I understand that to do a incremental or a differential you must have a full backup...my media sets are set to Full Backup-->overwrite after 4weeks...my differential media set is Differential-->overwrite after 2 weeks, and incremental is Incremental-->overwrite after 1 week...what i am wanting to do is backup each server with a full backup each month, then a differential every day for two weeks then overwrite the data...and some servers like our file server lunch server and business server incrementally every day and overwrite after a week...the way it looks is that i am going to have to create a separate job with a full every month, then a full with a differential every two weeks overwrite or a full with an incremental...i have 8 disks 800gb with 1:2 ratio to make 1.6tb...i have to also add a tape to the media set ...I am a newbie that has read the manual...looked at different posts and forums, and watched roughly 6 videos on backup exec planning, implementing and creating a backup...my question is for the full and incremental, and the full and differential...should i make a new media set for the full differential so that is overwrites the full and the differentialbackup every two weeks? or should i leave that full backup for a month before overwriting?...im shaky on the planning of the backups...incremental for the servers that has a data change daily? and differential for the ones that data is more important and needs to be restored quickly?...such as our student files...and virtual server running the student files system..The complete full backups i was going to do monthly and take to offline storage...what is the industry standard for offline storage? overwrite allowed or no overwrite at all? I just upgraded to 2012 from BE 12.5 and there are a lot of changes...mainly to the shadow copy...so i had to add the servers and recreate my backups...I only have 8 servers, a file server, domain controller with ad and backup exec server, student database server, wsus, hyper-v server, exchange, antivirus server/library database server, and a business office server..without knowing how much space each full backup will take...it is hard to calculate how many tapes per backup...any insight, hopefully non-sarcastic and arrogant, would be helpful...thank you in advance for being helpful and mature...498Views0likes1Comment0xe000fedd, 0xe000037b, 0xe00084af or 0xe000846b errors
When attempting to backup Exchange 2007 resources configured with either Local Continuous Replication (LCR) or Cluster Continuous Replication (CCR), the backup job will intermittently fail with 0xe000fedd, 0xe000037b, 0xe00084af or 0xe000846b errors Problem When attempting to backup Exchange 2007 resources configured with either Local Continuous Replication (LCR) or Cluster Continuous Replication (CCR), the backup job will intermittently fail with 0xe000fedd, 0xe000037b, 0xe00084af or 0xe000846b errors. Error 1. 0xe000fedd - A failure occurred accessing the object list. 2. 0xe000037b - Using the job settings, Backup Exec attempted to back up the passive copy of the Exchange database. However, the passive copy was not available after the Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) snapshot was performed. Try to run the job again. 3. 0xe00084af - The directory or file was not found, or could not be accessed. 4. 0xe000846b - The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Remote Agent. Cause 1) The 0xe00084af message will only be seen if the Microsoft Exchange properties in the job configuration is set to "Backup from the passive copy Only (job fails if not available)". 2) The 0xe000846b message was seen in an environment where a hardware VSS provider was present. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue. For more information about the issue please contact Microsoft Technical Support. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982118 Solution There are two workaround to resolve this issue. Workaround 1: Configure an Error Handling Rule in the Backup Exec Console that retries any job that fails with error E000FEDD, E000037B, E00084AF or 0xE000846B. It is suggested that at least 3 retry attempts are made, although the amount is optional. Make sure the rule is set to "Reschedule the job for its next scheduled service". The error codes E000FEDD, E000037B and 0xE000846B can be found under the Error category called "Resource". The error code E00084AF is located in the category called "Job". Notes: This method allows the backup to complete from the Passive Copy of the Exchange database, but relies on the VSS failure being intermittent so should be tested/monitored carefully. For more information on the use of Error Handling Rules please review the content of the Backup Exec for Windows Administrator's Guide. Depending on the job and media set configuration this workaround could consume extra storage media. Error E00084AF can be caused by other job configurations so this may cause retry attempts against other jobs. Workaround 2: This workaround should be used if setting an error handling rule does not solve the issue. Configure the Microsoft Exchange settings within the properties of the backup job so that the setting for "If Exchange 2007 backup source is LCR or CCR:" is specified as "Backup from the active copy only (job fails if not available)". Also make sure there is enough free disk space on the Exchange server for the snapshot to complete, as it will otherwise fail with the error "Using the job settings, Backup Exec attempted to back up the passive copy of the Exchange database. However, the passive copy was not available after the Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) snapshot was performed. Try to run the job again."
