Differental Backups w/Modified Time does Full Backup
I recently switched our backups from using the archive bit to using the Modified time instead. The idea was that modified times are supposed to be faster than checking each archive bit. I've since run one Full backup using the Modified time settings, and now our differentials are all performing full backups each time they run. The Full and Differential jobs are both set to use time stamps(they are under the same parent job), but it seems like the Modified Time is being completely ignored. The files are stored on a Hitachi NAS unit and shared as CIFs folders. A Backup Exec agent cannot be installed on it.I recieve an error each time this unit is backed up due to this(full, incremental, or diff), though the files backup successfully. Backups are direct to tape via fiber channel. Can I not make use of modified times to backup this server, or do I need some additional configuration?

Backup Exec 2012 backup very slow (catalog problem?)
We've been having some problems with the speed of our backup. The setup is the following: physical BE2012 server coonected to disk storage via fibre and connected to VmWare enviroment via Fibre as well. When backup up our file and print server to DeDupe location on our disk storage it takes a very long time (+19hr) for 900GB of data. It seems to hang on updating catalog. History: Everything working fine and backupjob of all servers (1.4TB) runnning at speeds of between 4000MB/min to 6000MB/min. Then from one day to the other (no windows or BE updates done) the speed slowed down to between 600MB/min and 900MB/min. Things allready tried: delete and recreate the backup job. update to SP1a. Thick all the boxes under the catalog tab and set to trucate after 4 weeks. run database maintenance at a time when no backup jobs are running. split up the job into different jobs (this alleviated the problem a bit) After splitting the job up so that the exchange server, the SQL server and the file and print server had different jobs I noticed that the exchange and SQL were backing up at normal speeds (+4000MB/min) but the file and print server was still taking 18Hrs to backup. a bit more digging and a couple of days later I noticed that the data of file and print was backing up at speeds of +4000MB/min itself but it was hanging (going verrry slow) on updating the catalog at the end of the job while the size stayed unchanged. My counterpart in our other location the other side of Australia is having the same problem for the exact same setup. (his problem started about 2 weeks before mine) He has been testing with going from full daily backups to incremental but the same problem stays. We do not have a bottleneck problem with our disks, speed of our servers or any other hardware but it seems to come backup to the updating of the catalog for the file and print server. (my counterpart has also tried to uninstall and reinstall BE2012 but no sollution there either) Does anyone have an idea how to clean, compact or do anything else with the catalog to get it back to normal speed? (catalog folder is currently 9GB with 16GB available) Thanks in advance

automate missed backups BESR 8.5
Currently i have several laptops on my network with BESR 8.5 installed on them. i have them scheduled to backup at night to a SAN everday. when these systems are taken home they don't backup and in the morning the users click no when asked to run the missed backups. is there a way to take this option away from them? To make this automatic instead of an option?

How to backup to LTO-3 tape dynamically generated file with BE 2010

Does Backup Exec 2014 have a way to do Hierarchical storage management or Tiered storage? I have a Dicom server that needs to archive files to a single storage space, that then needs to have the older files migrated to tape, while maintaining a stub file in the original location for the Dicom server to see and retrieve if necessary. B2D Backup sets don't get overwritten after retention time ends
Background: Running BE2012 1798.1244 OS 2008 We generally backup to disk and retain that information for 1-4 Weeks. After most B2D jobs complete a duplicate job kicks off and duplicates the data to tape to be retained for 1 or 7 years. My issue: My B2D sets are not all being overwritten or delted even after their retention time has ended. This causes the disk to fill up. If I try to forcefully delete these expired B2D backup setsfrom the backup sets section of the Administrative console it informs me that "Other backup sets depend on backup set snapshot ..". These dependent jobs are tape duplicate jobs that expire 1 or 7 years later. Why do my duplicate Tape jobs depend on the B2D jobs? Shouldn't they depend on other tape jobs? If I have a full and incremental on seperate tapes. Any suggestion would greatly be apreaciatted. Thanks, Nima

Buenas Tenemos una duda con el Symantec DLO console,estamos implementando el proceso de deduplicacion o Dedupe lo pusimos a correr en un perfil y repetidamente han salidos varios usuarios con error y alertas donde muesta que el Back up IP does not exist, lo que me gustaria saber es por que sale ese error si el archivo esta a la ves siendo localizado y respaldado pero cuando se modifica muestraese error gracias y espero su ayuda, si el errorles parece tediosome pueden preguntar para aclarar
