Granular backups for Exchange failing
Granular backups used to work just fine. Now for the last few months it appears that they are not working correctly anymore. The detailed status on the backup jobs show the following warning: "Warning bpbrm (pid=5296) from client DAG01: WRN - unable to setup NBFSD credentials, disabling granular backups". The job completes, but with a status of '1' and obviously granular restores are not available when trying to restore using that backup job. I have searched and searched and the only things I am finding on the internet relate to setting up NFS. I have verified that NFS is setup correctly. So this is not the issue. Any ideas about what the likely cause may be? We have seen this issue posted already but have been unable to resolve. We are using NetBackup v7.6.1 and have a couple of policies (with identical settings) to backup a number of VMware virtual machines. One of the policies has a problem when trying to select individual files for restore. Like the others it is type VMware and 'Enable file recovery from VM backup" is selected/ticked. Backups are completing successfully every day for this policy (snapshot and backup), over 1.1 gb written). We only get this error for this policy and only when selecting "Restore from Normal Backup..." Restore from "Virtual Machine Backup" does not produce the error and displays results under "Contents" pain without any error. Our backup server is NBU Enterprise Server, 7.5.0.7 running on OEL 5.10 (x86), on a Dell R620 server and Dell PVTL 2000 (2 x LTO5 drives), each drive connected via 6Gps SAS interface to NBU server. We backup several items to disk, among them two Exchange 2010 servers. We need the GRT option as we need to recover items at a message level. The disk is an iSCSI volume, presented rw to the OS as mount point /nfsbackup (/dev/mapper/idatap1 on /nfsbackup type ext4 (rw,_netdev)). The issue I am running into is what I consider to be poor performance during duplication from disk to tape. We can't get the images off disk fast enough (it's a 1.5TB volume) to make room for the next images. The current situation is a great example. They are both Exchange 2010 GRT images, one from each server. Now, utilization does peak from time to time (see image at end) but then it always settles down to this level. The reason is that we are just implimenting GRT backups of Sharepoint, which requires disk storage. Until we get some new hardware, I have a very small amount of disk storage (enough for one of said backups). So, ideally, I'd like to run the normal backup on a daily schedule and then have it automatically duplicate to tape and delete the copy on disk, so that the backup can run the next day. So, is there a way that I can automate a process to duplicate image that's on disk and delete the original once the duplication is complete? I was looking at the bpduplicate command (which we already use in batch files called by scheduled tasks to duplicate other images) and the duplication part is easy, but I can't figure out how to get rid of the old image, short of doing it manually each day.2.4KViews0likes16CommentsNfsClnt Event Log Warning
Hi All NetBackup 7.1.0.3 with Master and Media Severs running Windows 2003 Ent and all at same NBU version Have setup Exchange 2010 DAG Backups with the GRT option - so installed NFS on all DAG members and Media Servers. The mailbox servers are all Windows 2008 R2 SP1 and are running 7.0.1 (due to be upgraded soon so that we can get the GRT backups / restores working) The Clients have Server for NFS disabled and Client for NFS enabled and running. Everything works just fine (not doing GRT backups until the clients have been upgraded as tests showed the restores do not work) but the CAS and Mailbox servers occasionally get the following event logged in the Windows Application Event Logs (domain and service account edited here but relate to the account used by the NetBackup Client Service (Client for NFS service runs as Network Service) There is also an identical event against another users name so I am thinking that this happens if someone opens the BAR GUI that accesses earlier test GRT backups so tries to mount the image for a GRT expansion in the GUI. Even if this is the case I would like to know what the warning means and how to correct it. Event ID : 16399 (and identical 16398) The Active Directory Domain Services(R) uidNumber attribute is not set for Windows(R) user <ourdomain\svc_account>. Without the corresponding UNIX identity of the Windows user, the user cannot access Network File System (NFS) shared resources. Verify that the Active Directory Domain Services schema includes UNIX identity data, and then set the uidNumber attribute. Anyone know what this means and how to stop it? We're planning to move to an Exchange 2013 DAG from our current Exchange 2010 CAS/Mailbox server setup. We're using NBU 7.5.0.7 with GRT to backup our Exchange 2010 environment; it's working great. I see from this forum post https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/exchange-2013-and-grt that as of NBU 7.6.0.3 and up, Exchange 2013 is supported with GRT (allowing for single-item restores). My question is, has anyone been able to restore from an Exchange 2010 GRT backup into an Exchange 2013 (will also be GRT-based) environment? I thought I would ask here before contacting support.
