Does Backup Exec have a way to do Hierarchical storage management or Tiered storage?
Does Backup Exec 2014 have a way to do Hierarchical storage management or Tiered storage? I have a Dicom server that needs to archive files to a single storage space, that then needs to have the older files migrated to tape, while maintaining a stub file in the original location for the Dicom server to see and retrieve if necessary. Thank you, scrowSolved1KViews1like3CommentsCannot Backup Oracle 11g Database on Backup Exec 2010

Hello, I am quite new to using backup exec 2012 with the idea of DLM and need some questions answered (i.e. my setup confirmed) Some history: Currently, we are using another backup solution that pushes backups via FTP to two stores that leap frog each other. The people here have become very used to being able to delete a file and that file being available to them in the future on account of our incremental backups never cleaning up backup sets (our storage is much larger than usage, the company is not very data heavy.) With DLM, I believe files like these in the backup sets will be removed after the retention period of the backup has been reached, as the backup sets themselves are deleted to regain storage. In this case, I believe I have read people would set up a duplicate backup to archive media such as tape so recovery of files that might have been deleted months or years ago will be available. Our company gets audited frequently, and we could be asked to produce data that might have been deleted for years off our production servers. We would like to use offsite tape storage sets to comply with data retention standards we have to comply to. The setup I would think of for us is: One full backup per week, with daily incremental backups all to our deduplication storage on our media server, with data retention set to a level our media set could handle (currently eight weeks.) Then, we could have a weekly Backup to deduplication then duplicate to tape action for archiving purposes that backs up to scratch media. 1. Weekly Full backup to deduplication (eight week retention) with duplication to tape (no retention, tapes are archived off site) 2. Daily incremental backup to deduplication (eight week retention) Would this setup would give us eight weeks of backup data available to restore on our live media server and unlimited restore potential from archive tapes? We would not be re-using our tapes in this scenario. Sorry if this question is too simple for the forum.Solved682Views1like2CommentsBE 2010 R3 unable to browse the folder in RHL server.
Hi, We have the following infra. Backup Exec 2010 R2 on Windows 2003 Ent. SP2 (32bit). As Master and Media server RALUS of BE 2010 R3 installed on RHEL 5.4 64 Bit. As BE Client We have installed the RALUS of BE 2010 R3 on the RHEL and its was successful. We have started the VRTUS** service in /etc/init.d Restarted the backup service in the BE 2010 R2 server. When we are trying to browse after adding the Linux server IP in the "User defined" section... I am getting the user authentication window to choose the user from. I am giving the root user with correct password but still the authentication window is poping up. I have added the IP address and host name in the hots file in both the servers (linux and windows ). Just to add this BE 2010 R3 server's IP address have changed but the host name remained the same. And I am giving the host name in the RALUS configuration. Thanks.Solved760Views0likes3CommentsRobotic library re-insert on the different slot not working
I am new in Backup Exec 2012. System details as follows OS: Windows 2008 server Robotic library :IBM 3572-TL I partitioned the tape library to 9 ( we loaded 8 data tape and 1 cleaning tape) My requirements are as follows Mon back up move to Tape1 ( Not overwrite) Tue back up move to Tape2 ( Overwrite after 4 weeks or tape full ) Wed back up move to Tape3 ( Overwrite after 4 weeks or tape full ) Thu back up move to Tape 4 ( Not overwrite) Fri back up move to Tape 5 ( Overwrite after 4 weeks or tape full ) Sat back up move to Tape 6 ( Overwrite after 4 weeks or tape full ) All tape have bar code. Once I interchange the tape from slot 1 to slot 2, the back is failed with a message “Last append mode not found..” I have the following questions If I take the tape out and re-insert to tape library, is I have to insert on the same slot or I can insert to another slot of tape library? If the job not finished after 1 hours of start time, is any method to stop the job? If the tape is full, how I can configure a new tape? It is need any special configuration? Thanks in advance. Hello everybody, I'm beginning to design a backup configuration that will involve backup to disk. So far the plan is to run the backups to a B2D folder and allow it to fill up a period of time, and once that period of time is over, then we'll copy the .bkf file to an external hard drive and move it offsite. The problem is when we copy that .bkf file back, the media-ID is still the same and the original and it conflict, only allowing one to be recognized by Backup Exec at a time. Is there a way to change the media-ID that the scheduled task will write to, so during any restores, it won't have any conflicts?
