Incremental backup of files on QNAP backs up as Full with Backup Exec
Hi, I have two QNAP NAS devices, a TS-421U, and a TS-453U-RP. They both work fine. However, whenever I try to perform an incremental backup of the data on them using Backup Exec (version 20.5), any incremental backup always runs as a full backup. It is as if it can't tell that it has already backed up a file, and the incremental then backs up each and every file, creating to all intents and purposes a full backup. I have no problems whatsoever with other backups, i.e. from any Windows server or PC. Full and incrementals run as they should do. I realise this may be down to not being able to install a Backup Exec agent on the QNAP's, but if it can backup those devices using file share, then surely it can see if a file has been modified since the last backup or not. If anyone has any suggestions on how incremental backups of data on QNAP devices can be made to work, it would be appreciated. This request will also be posted on a QNAP forum in case someone there is able to assist. Thank you.4.3KViews0likes12Comments35 GB Full backup and 200 GB Incrementals
Hi Everyone I have a group of Vmware VMs in our VCSA 6.5, which are applications servers, running Wonderware software on windows server 2016. I backed them up in 2 groups (5 VMs in each). Weekly Full backup and Daily Incremental. Both the daily and the incrementals are configured in the same backup job. All the application servers have 200 GB thin provisioned Harddrives. 6 of the servers, split between the 2 groups are backing up just fine. 35-ish GB Full backups and 1-4 GB incrementals. However, the remaining 4, also split across the 2 groups have huge incremental backups. Full 35GB and Incremental 200 GB. (Which is 100% of their harddrives) All 10 application servers have the same backup settings as they are grouped together. (2 groups of 5) Here are the different backup settings. * Backed up to a storage device pool with 2 Disk storages (Not dedup) * No compression or encryption * Verify at end of job * Instant GRT enbaled * Use snapshot technology is enabled * Automatic - Allow VSS to select snapshot provider * Process logical volumes for backup one at a time * Use Backup exec GRT is enabled * Backup using VSS is enabled *Transport mode: SAN > Hotadd > NBD > NBDSSL I hope someone is able to help me find a sollution to this. Hello everybody! I need to know about jobs. I have a costumer wich use Backup Exec 2012 (v14 rev1794), and i have differents issues with the incremental job, like -528 file log missing, timestamp mismatch and so on. The full backup completes successfully. So, is necessary to keep trying to solve the incremental job? Thanks!827Views0likes2CommentsPermanent Incrementals
I'm looking to implement a new disk-only backup system, removing tape completely. To reduce the bandwidth usage across the WAN for each backup target I'd like to perform an initial full backup and then incremental-only, i.e. no further full backups. The retention period is only 3 months, so the data set is of limited size Is this possible, and / or advisable, considering the way Backup Exec works, to operate backups in this way?975Views0likes3Comments
