Agent is seeing, but does not work
Hello, I am using: Symantec Backup Exec 12 for Windows Servers Backup Exec 11d for Windows Servers Linux/UNIX/Macintosh & NT4 Agents Remote agent for Linux is seeing in Favorite Resources in Symantec Backup Exec 12 for Windows Server. Hi team, I´m working providing Symantec Support for Backup Exec with a Partner Hardware Manufacturing and some times I need to use the follow troubleshooting tools as a bellow: Be_ST (Backup Exec Support Tool) VxGather Tracer.exe Log Debug (From Register entries) SGMON (Live Debug) I´d like to know if there are any tool that help to viewer these logs. Does anyone know when Symantec Backup Exec.cloud will be available in Austria and under what pricing? Also, does anyone know the location of the servers where our data would be stored (Europe? US?)? Finally, does anyone know how private, safe, and secure our data would be (Would the CIA, the FBI, or similar companies have access to our data?)? Any input is appreciated, thank you in advance.

Error restoring from Backup2Disk folder
We are consistantly encountering an error when trying to run a restore. Our setup is - a Windows 2008 R2 server running Backup Exec 2010 R3. The is backing up (amongst other things) 3 Mac Servers. The Full backups are going to Tape and then there are Differentials going to a Backup2Disk folder and then, once a week, to tape. The problem is that when we try to restore from the differential on the Backup2Disk folder the job fails with the error: "Final error: 0xe00084ca - The data being read from the media is inconsistent". The backup itself runs with no trouble. Verification is on and no errors are reported. The are no tapes involved in this restore so it is not to do with tape problems. The only way I can get a restore to succeed is if there are no files and only a folder structure in the selected items - not much help! Thanks

Backup of Apple Mac Server Fails - Remote Agent Not Detected
I'm running Backup Exec 2010 R2 with all patches on a Windows Server 2008 R2 media server. I'm attempting to backup a Apple Mac server that I've backed up successfully in the past with Backup Exec 2010 R2. I've verified that the correct version of the Remote Agent is installed on the Mac server and have verified that port 10,000 is listening on the Mac server (i.e., I can telnet to the Mac server on port 10,000 and receive a response). Recent backups of the server have failed with the error "Remote Agent not detected on Server.domain.com". Can anybody provide any suggestions for getting backups working again?

Migrating Retrospect data to BackupExec
Hi there, I've a general question relating to migrating data from Retrospect on the Mac into BackupExec 2010 on Windows. My company have recently moved to using BackupExec 2010 for their archive/backup solution. Prior to this, the company's archive/backup solution was Retrospect running on Mac OS, originally backup in OS9 country and more recently on OSX10.x. I would like to know if there is any way of getting this legacy data from the Retrospect tapes/catalogs into BackupExec? Part of the reason for asking is the Retrospect data is accessable only through an old Overland Storage SuperDLT XpressLoader and this is no longer supported etc., so at some point it will die and we've lost access to that data. So.... can I attach this tape loader to our BackupExec machine, import the Retrospec Catalogs into BackupExec and then in effect, do a tape to tape copy from the DLT & SuperDLT tapes we hold, on to our new LTO 4 tapes? Or am I being really hopeful here? If we could not import the Retrospec catalogs, could BackupExec recatalog the old tapes (understanding they are Retrospect ones) to enable data migration to the new tapes? Sorry for the questions, but I've very little experience of BackupExec and am trying to preempt future issues. Any help/suggestions/guidance would be appreciated. Pete

beremote Killed When Remote Console Accesses
I've installed 2010 r2 client on Mac OS X Server v. 10.6.4. That was a trick in itself as I had to boot to 32 bit mode to install it, then back to 64 after installation. Now that the system is installed and running, when my backup admin goes to the console to add the machine to the backups, he initially sees the machine but then can't access it. I stopped the process and then tried to run beremote manually with logging to the console. I've verified it's connecting to the correct IP as I have two NICs on this machine. It's running Xsan and has to have the metadata over one network and the rest of the IP traffic over the other. Why is my beremote process being killed? It will run fine until the remote console connects.

Backup Exec 2010 R2 and Macs
I am trying to back up a Mac. I followed the only instructions I could find, which were in the help file,and I've run into a wall. I have a few questions. I ran the installrams file and went through the setup process, put in the IP of the backup server, and everything said it was successful. I ran SystemStarter start VRTSrams to start the agent. Next it says you have to create a group called "admin" if it wasn't automatically created. Is this in the GUI? If so, where do you do that? I see in /etc/group that there is already a group called admin there, but I'm not sure that's what they're talking about. So here are my questions. 1. Where do I create the admin group? 2. Does the Mac OS have to be a server OS to be backed up? Some places say Macintosh Server, and some say Macintosh Systems, it's not clear. 3. How do I then get the Mac into the list of servers that can be backed up? Sorry for the long list, but the docs for this either don't exist or are hard to find.

RemoteAgent für Mac - kann nicht initialisiert werden
Hallo, wir sichern mit BE 11d Rev. 7170 SP5 unter anderem auch einen Mac OS X Server 10.4.11 Von Zeit zu Zeit kommt es vor, dass wir mit BE nicht mehr auf den Server zugreifen können. Die Windowsfreigabe funktioniert aber zur gleichen Zeit. Auch das Sichern des Servers lässt sich in so einem Fall noch per Freigabe abwickeln, der Job endet dann aber mit der Meldung: V-79-57344-3844 - Der Medienserver konnte keine Verbindung zum Remote-Agent auf dem Computer xserve herstellen. Der Medienserver wird versuchen, den Vorgang mithilfe des lokalen Agent abzuschließen. Nach einem Neustart des Mac's funktioniert alles wieder. Der RA wurde schon neu verteilt, allerdings ohne Erfolg. Wie lässt sich das vermeiden?

Hi. I am evaluating Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R2 (60 day trial), but I cannot find the Remote Agent for Macintosh Servers. The trial software states all available agents are included.
