Two Journals Need Retention Category Changed
Good morning! I have an issue I'd like some community assistance with... We have two Journaled Mailboxes, we'll call them Old Journal and New Journal. They both share the same retention category, at this time... "Permanent" (Brilliant idea from whomever the "first" admin was...), and I need to purge all but the most recent two years on the Old Journal, while leaving everything in the New Journal as Permanent. I realize this can't be done without some interesting solutions, and that's what I'm here for... the interesting solutions. What would everyone recommend as the best way to do this? I contacted support, and their recommendation was to export the New Journal to a .pst, create a new retention category specifically for it, then import the .pst to the mailbox via Exchange, and let the archiving re-archive using the new retention category. I'd like to avoid that solution if at all possible, because we're talking about a .pst file that's 100 mailboxes over the last 2+ years. Not something I want to even try. So, what can I do? My end result, I'd like to have the Old Journal with a retroactive retention of 2 years, and the New Journal still permanent, or perhaps legal hold? Am I correct that if I change the category of one of either Journal, it has no effect on the items which were archived using the previous retention category? And that only if I change the retention time on the existing retention category will it be retroactive? Thanks for everyone's time! Hello Gentlemen, Our company has recently acquired some Data Domains, so we have migrated all of our Enterprise Vault Stores to the Data Domain. The process went smoothly until now: After updating the Enterprise Vault DB fields to change the paths of the vault stores, we changed them to a UNC path to the data domain (\\data-domain\evault01\Enterprise Vault Stores\File Vault Store01). After making this change, retrieving files and everything worked just fine, and our backups were running successfully, but we noticed that the backups were only running for 5 minutes before "succeeding". What we found was that Backup Exec wasn't actually backing up the Vault Stores anymore, it was looking for a media agent on the Data Domain, and when it couldn't find one, the backup was still marked as "success" with an error: "Media Agent not found on data-domain". It appears that Backup Exec also used these connection strings, and now it's connecting to the Data Domain as if it were the Enterprise Vault server. Has anybody else experienced this problem? Our current solution was to create a hard-link/directory junction on our Enterprise Vault server. We were then able to change the Enterprise Vault DB entries to reference \\EVServer\hardlink\Enterprise Vault Stores instead of referencing the Data Domaind directly. This works successfully, but now our backups are running pretty insanely slowly (Less than 500MB/Minute, we're talking a few TBs of data for the open vaults), we're hypothesizing that backing up data on the Data Domain through the Enterprise Vault server might be slowing things down. Any other ideas would be seriously appreciated! Thank you! Adam681Views0likes3CommentsChanging Enterprise Vault Disk Drive
Hello, I have Symantec Enterprise Vault version 11. running on a VM and subsequant MS SQL Server on saperate VM. Both VMs have 2 hard disks, each hard disk allocated from different LUN. Once disk for OS and the other for Data. Enterprise Vault keep eating disk space and every time we extend the dis space, unfortuantly the extension of the disk space is going wrong every time and it shows that the other dirves which has been extened to the original volume. The current volme (Drives E:\) is 290 GB Now, I'm thinking of replacing the volume which contains the Archives Vault Data with bigger volme. The old disk extension was added as different disk and extending the E:\ drive from those disks.. Which I think it's a bad idea since the VMDK disk is thin provisioned where it can be increased from the VM itself and use Diskpart command to extend the Volume. To make it short, what is the procedure of making changing the drive of Index Vault; 1. Stop put Vauls in offline / maintenance mode. 2. Stop EV services. 3. Put SQL DBs in offline mode. 4. Add new Drive with bigger volume and Backup/Restore the contents of Drive E:\ to the new drive added 5. Change the drive letter back to E:\. Does this will work? Please share your experiance. Dear All, The targeted Vault Store is only for Discovery Accelerator (Exchange Journaling). The customer is not going to search the journaling email. Is there anyone know anything about the EV Vault Store migrator offline to BackupExec? The customer would like to know does it going to include the index file or not. The index size of each year is over 6TB. Thanks TWSolved564Views0likes1CommentMigration using NBU when tapes may not be available
Hi, IHAC who is wanting to use the collect/migrate feature of EV with NBU. They want to implement this in such a way that the tapes will not be available automatically in NBU. Is this a supported configuration? What can we expect to see with this configuration in terms of the process for adding the right tapes etc. in NBU? Hello, We are backing up our EV 9 with NBU 7.5, the following way: - using the EV agent to backup the indexes - using an MS-Windows policy to backup the Open Partition and triggerring the databases backup (sql dump) with the bpstart_notify. (We know this isn't ideal but we cannot use the EV agent for everything as our sql server is Win2K12 and still unsupported by NBU) We are doing a FULL BKP every weekend and a Differential inc daily. The issue we are having is that the daily diff backup of the open partition is "bigger" and "bigger" (volume and time) as long as the week goes. It seems to me like it backs up the same volume of data that's on the partition. We also get the famous "There are 477172 savesets that have not yet been backed up or replicated for Vault Store" msg. In the VaultStore properties, The last scan started shows yesterday after backup completed, but Last item Secured shows Saturday (4 days ago, after the FUll Backup completed) The VaultStore is configured to use the archive bit. I read that differential backups in NBU do clearthe archive bit correctly so I don't understand what is wrong. Many thanks in advance for your help and sorry for this somewhat long description.419Views2likes2CommentsEV90 EMC clip not replicating - resolve how?
Hello all, Using EV90SP2, with EMC Centera as storage for Journal Stores. On 1 Journal server, there is an issue with 'items awaiting backup/replication'. This seems to be due to 1 clip being parked (viewable in the EMCCenteraViewer) EMC support has been working on that for longer than a week now, and I thought to ask here if annyone possibly has a solution. I have found a KB article showing how to find the items that are in the clip. That works fine. EMC has been trying to replicate the clip, but until now they have failed to get it replicated, and thus disappear from the parking. Thanks to an article of JW3, I traced the StorageFileWatch on that specific JournalServer, and it does show that it is checking the replication for that specific clip. 651 09:06:09.464 [10096] (StorageFileWatch) <9528> EV:L {CCenteraItemSecuredVerifier::CheckItem} (Entry) ItemName = [5HQF71RA63EL0e40KAJ6M8EA421G417OU8F96H03C3QGJ2DGMAP5A] That number is the clip being parked. I believe that this clip being parked is causing SFW to stop, due to this message in the dtrace: 9371 09:06:11.570 [10096] (StorageFileWatch) <4004> EV:M CCenteraItemSecuredVerifier::CheckItem Warning: Watch file partition scan will be stopped for following EMC Centera partition as consecutive [1] clips have not been replicated.|Partition Name = [VS Journaling EV0515 Ptn01]|VaultStoreEntryId = [1BDAB7E79851DB14E9181E77F369057891210000EV001]. Does anyone know if and how replication can be forced for this clip? Should the clip be deleted? (causing dataloss?) Can the clip be 'recreated' somehow, so it replicates properly? Any other option to get it going again? Thanks for your input.Solved1.4KViews0likes10CommentsSize of each users Email Vault

Hi. We have users who receive delegation to other users emails. Our domain policy is vaulting the emails after 90 days. When the user goes into the vaulted emails that have been vaulted under someone else's username, they are not able to download the attachments. It seems like the text is viewable, but not the attachments - which is a big deal because a lot of what we do is being emailed to us in either pdf or jpg format. We are using Ent Vault v10.2. Even when the user is given the permissions on the exchange server for delegation AND permission to open the vaulted item, they still cannot get the attachment. Has anyone else seen this before? Any help would be greatly appreciated!Solved710Views0likes1Comment
