Saludos.-SolvedLabeling in Symantec Exec 2010
I was just wondering if it was acceptable to place an LT5 barcode label on an LT3 tape in order for it to be written on by exec, as opposed to just being able to be read. Is exec really incapable of writing to it because of it's lack of space or what? We send tapes offsite, although it hasn't happened yet in the cycle, i'm afraid we're going to have insuffecient space on too little of LT5 tapes for our backup jobs to be backuped. We have a lot of spare LT3 tapes from the last backup system we had. Thank youSolved$17,000 a year for a terabyte??? You're kidding right
I just have to protest these prices. 1 terabyte drives are currently $150 at any retail store. So I can buy over 100 terabytes at your yearly price of $17,000 for 1 terabyte. How can you justify charging such an amount of money? Have you looked at your competitors who charge from $50 to at the most $1000 per year for unlimited storage?4.1KViews0likes6CommentsRemote Imaging using the RDP to the ghost server

some info: BE 12.5, all updates. SPN installed.. Job setup: -Daily differential to disk -Duplicate to SPN The daily diff to disk runs fine, however the duplicate doesn't run at all, no errors, no sign of it even running. It is configured properly to run when the differential job completes. I have created a test diff and duplicate to SPN and it works fine. What settings specifically could prevent the regular differential duplicate from actually running at all?1.1KViews0likes1CommentOnline Storage: Inactive message...
I'm getting a strange message from my SPN portion of BE. In the status icon in the System Tray, it shows: Protection Network: Active Online Storage: Inactive When I check my offsite folders in Backup Exec, I see this message: General Status: Offline How do I get my folders back online?1.6KViews0likes1CommentAre you looking for a performance increase to Online Storage for Backup Exec?
There are two configuration changes you can make that will enhance the performance of file uploads for Online Storage for Backup Exec. 1) Deselecting “verify after” and 2) modifying the upload chunk size. 1. DESELECTING VERIFY AFTER Deselecting “Verify after job completes” significantly improves the performance of file uploads. Steps for changing the setting in Backup Exec. Go to the properties of the Backup Exec duplicate job a. This can also be done while you’re creating the job. From the left hand pane under Settings, select “Advanced”. In the right hand pane, ensure checkbox next to "Verify after job completes” is UNCHECKED. Click Submit. Why not verify for the duplicate job? The purpose of “Verify” in Backup Exec is to confirm the ability to restore data from generally unreliable tape media. Since Online Storage for Backup Exec is using high end disk based online storage as the backup target, the additional time required to “Verify” (i.e., resend data back to the BE server for verification) is not warranted. The Online Storage agent already verifies the data backed up to ensure a successful file transfer. 2. MODIFYING UPLOAD CHUNK SIZE The Online Storage agent is configured with a static data unit “chunk” size that is not optimal for all network configurations. You can tune the upload chunk size to maximize throughput through registry key setting for Backup Exec. Steps for adding the registry key Visit www.speedtest.net and perform a speed test. Record the value displayed for the upload speed transfer rate. Use this value to look up recommended chunk size in table below. Create the registry key under “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\BackupExecForWindows\Adamm\SPN” DWORD Value Name: Cache Mbytes Base: Decimal Possible values: [2, 4, 8, 16, 32] Restart Backup Exec Device & Media Server Services Notes: 1) Setting the Cache Mbytes value higher than recommended can actually reduce performance and waste network bandwidth. Setting values other than 2, 4, 8, 16, or 32 will be ignored as invalid. 2) Default Value is 2 Mbyte cache. A future software update will calculate the optimum value and dynamically adjust the “chunk” size for the best performance. Of the two configuration changes, Deselecting Verify should have the most impact on improving performance.
