ApplicationHA 6.1, ESXi 5.5 and SQL 2012 problems
Hi all, Just wondering if anyone out there might be able to throw a bit of advice my way. Currently evaluating AppHA on VMWare (AppHA 6.1 and ESXi 5.5 hosts) with the view to buying as on paper it does exactly what we want. I've installed the High Availability Console server which has plugged into vCenter nicely, installed the ApplicationHA agent onto a VM running Windows 2012 DC R2 and SQL 2012, again all going smoothly up to this point. Now I get around to testing the agent out. I'm doing this by stopping the sql server and sql agent services on the VM and waiting for AppHA to kick in and restart both services, this is when I'm getting into a little trouble. Firstly the services do not shut down as cleanly as when the agent is not configured on the VM, a message pops up saying that windows could not stop the SQL server and that the service did not return an error, helpful I know. This does not happen when the agent is not configured on the VM, the services shut down fine. Secondly when the agent is configured and the services finally shut down, the AppHA plugin for the VM in vCenter displays a faulted status and that the SQL server service is not running and that the SQL agent service could not started. AppHA just sits there and does nothing, it does not restart the services as it should do. Now it's probably something I've done during setup but being new to the product I cannot see what, I have followed all the install pdf's and have read them over many times, I just cannot see what I may have done wrong as the setup seems simple enough. Or am I testing the product in the wrong fashion? As I'm only in evaluation mode I have no technical support with Symantec so any help with this would be very much appreciated as we are looking at buying this product and at the moment this is the final piece of the test I need to get working (probably the most important part) before I can turn to the bean counters and ask for some cash. Many Thanks LeeSolved2.4KViews1like2CommentsAppHA, SRM, VOM VBS Orchestration
Hello All, I'm working through a complex implementation and have hit a couple of snags along the way. Maybe people have worked on verious bits along the way and may be able to contribute to an overall solution The object of this endeavor is to create a flexible environment between 2 regional datacenters that gives us the ability to bring up a complex multi-tiered application pod at either location. Physicals meeting this HA criteria run VCS-Geo Cluster, some VMs run VCS-Geo Cluster with VVR while other VMs run AppHA..using SRM. They are all logically grouped within 2VOM VBS groups. The Home VBS consists of the AppHA VMs, Service Groups from the VCS nodes in the home datacenter while the DR VBS consists of the AppHA VMs and the matching DR geo cluster Service groups. AppHA seems to work as planned. VMs move through SRM to the datacenters and register fine in the SymHA consoles and report through VCenter with current status. My primary hurdle seems to be the control of those AppHA VMs from VOM VBS. The VBS control relies on a control host scan; and when that scan takes upwards of 6 hrs to run and update status. That time is better spent doing a manual startup sequence. Again VOM communication and dynamic updating of the Virtualization environment seem to be an issue. The VCS based elements are not an issue with my belief that they are based on a static infrastructure. I have successfully started up and shut down the home VBS, but once it moves to the opposing Datacenter...VOM can't find the VM and AppHA Consoles cant tie updates to records Has anyone done VBS orchistration of AppHA assets withe SRM handling transfers? Environment Two ESXi Servers = Esxi1 and Esxi2 version of Esxi Servers = 5.0 Vcenter OS = Windows2008R2(64bit) SAN = SAN attached on both Esxi Servers HA and DRS = enabled Application HA = 6.0a trial Application HA OS = rhel6.4z (64bit) Hello, i can't deploy a rhel6 ApplicationHA agent directly from the vcenter ApplicationHA Console tab because the package isn't installed. When i wan't to integrate it i can't do it. I think I haven't the correct media to perform this task. On the vcenter OS, i tried to integrate agent guest components D:\Symantec HA\ApplicationHA\Console\installer>CopyInstaller.bat "D:\temp\SYMC_ApplicationHA_6.0a_Linux" Error: Invalid source location. D:\Symantec HA\ApplicationHA\Console\installer>CopyInstaller.bat "D:\temp\VRTS_HA_Agent_Pack_2Q2013_Linux" Error: Invalid source location. I think a dvd2 media/iso is requested but i haven't this one. How to fix it ?Solved1.5KViews0likes1CommentVCS AutoStartList ungracefully failover part2
I have two system cms-app-49-51 and cms-app-49-52 that I have been testing an ungraceful shutdown between systems (hard power off) After failing over from cms-app-49-52 to cms-app-49-51 I brought cms-app-49-52 back up and cleared all error (or so I thought.) Hi, I have configured Apache monitoring with Application on RHEL 5.8. This server runs /usr/sbin/httpd and the coniguration file is /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf. However AppHA alway report that "Apache HTTP server with Config file [/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf] is NOT RUNNING (Starting)" However if I login to the server, I can see that the process is running. The error code is V16-20081-3. Accoring to the logs under /var/VRTSvcs/log , ( apache log ) it is considring the http directory as /usr/sbin instead of /etc/httpd Any suggestions or recommendations? We have the product deployed in vSphere 4.1 but could't see anything related to alerting. When something needs attention as per ApplicationHA for a configured service (in a fault state), how do you get notified ? Didn't see anything except the status info from the ApplicationHA tab.Solved1.6KViews0likes5Comments
