Symantec Netbackup 7 licensing
Hi All, I'd like to know if I'm getting this correctly. I'm planning to getNetbackup 7 Starter Editionaccording tob-symc_netbackup_7_core_DS_12995286-2.en-us.pdf(http://eval.symantec.com/mktginfo/enterprise/fact_sheets/b-symc_netbackup_7_core_DS_12995286-2.en-us.pdf)Table 2. the Edition comparison the Starter Edition can have 5 Server (supported clients) does this means i can have the following backup items: 1x ESXi 4 server (using vStorage API for inline deduplication - Change Block Tracking) 1x Solaris SPARC + Oracle DB 10gR2 1x Linux 1x Windows Server + Share Point 2007 (Granular restore) 1x Windows Server + Exchange Server 2007(Granular restore) all of the above with bare metal restore capability. Since it is said that i could have: Server Clients, Tape Drive and Database Agents included ? yes I understand that Deduplication is not included here since it will need another license to spend. I'm getting confused here of which product that i should get :-| Would be good if anyone can clarify this please ?Solved1.2KViews4likes6CommentsUnable to see the exchange information store.

Trying to backup exchange mailboxes but they are failing with status 41 and this is failing only when he runs the fullbackups the differential backups are running fine. The exchange server is clustered. And the information store backups run fine. On BAR FOUND that the customer was not able to not see the information store and was also not able to see anything after expanding the exchange maiboxes. Than tried creating a test account gave the domain admin credentials, also assinged the exchange server role, activated the mailbox, after that started the netbackup services with the new test account but still was not able to expand the exchange mailboxes and was also not able to see the information store. Also asked him to do a failover of his cluster. Please help.569Views4likes4CommentsExchange 2010 Backup w GRT fails (Unable to obtain image list)

Hi ! We have NBU 6.5.4 and try to run GRT backups on a W2003 SP2 R2 server, with all needed nfs patches. We can see two phases in the backup 1- very fast backup of the store via SAN client 2- very slow indexation when the NFS client/server is involved. It takes 1 to 4 hours to index the 60GB store which contains 5 mailboxes. The exchange server and the media server are connected to the same switch. If we snoop the dialog on the media server, we can see that NFS packets are sent very slowly (about 4-8 KB/s). We see that the NBU nfs server waits 1 second before sending the data (see snoop below). We also found this 1 second delay in the bpdm log (see below). Happens with basic disk and advanced disk. Any idea how to solve this problem ? Hi, Iwanted to recover my Exchange 2003 database to a server OTHER than my Exchange 2003 server, using Netbackup 6.5 (full backup not incremental). Basically Ijust want to recover the information store to a hard drive that Ihave space on for now, I don't want to mount it or anything else. However when Irun the restore it tells me it has completed and when Igo to the restore destination the information store is 0 kb! I'm not overly familiar with all the ins and outs of Netbackup, is there some kind of rule that it will only restore the information store to an exchange server or something? We don't do individual mailbox backups either, just the entire store.Solved605Views2likes2CommentsFind out the exact backup id(s) associated with specific files/folders that have been backed up
Hi all, When I configure a restore in BAR for a client, say, for the MS-Windows policy type, I can select a specific folder or file, click Actions > Preview Media and it would tell me which media id(s) the folder/file is associated with. Since BAR knows which media id(s) my selected file is stored in, it obviously knows which backup id(s) (image id) the file is associated with. Because if it doesn't, then it shouldn't be able to tell me which media id(s) the file is stored in. What I want to find out, is the backup id(s) associated with the file I selected for restore. The Preview Media option in BAR only tells me the associated media id(s) for the file, but I also want to know its associated backup id(s). If I use the "Images on Tape" report, or the catalog "verify" feature against a media id, it would tell me all the backup ids associated with that media id. But picture this problem: A single backup policy backs up one client: somesvr The selection list contains different drives and folders for somesvr. If the media ABC011 contains ten backup ids, and they all begin with somesvr_xxxxxxxxxx (x = ctime code). Then which backup id(s) out of the ten contains the file C:\test.txt on the server "somesvr" ? In BAR, if I select the file C:\test.txt (for a specific day and time), then use Preview Media, it tells me this file is stored in ABC011. But the problem is, I want to know which backup id(s) out of all backup id(s) inside ABC011 this file is really associated with. Thanks for your time! P.S. I know I could use bpflist to find out what folder/files each backup id contains, but I consider this an inefficient solution when I have hundereds of backup ids to go through. We can backup the active copies of a Exchange 2010 DAG, but the backup from the passive copies quickly fails with status 2. For now we are backing up the active copies, but we are very interested in backing up only the passive copies. According to the Exchange Management Console, every DDBB has two copies and all the active ones are in the same Mailbox Server. That server also holds a Public Folder. In the Database Management screen, the "Servers" field shows both mailbox servers, the "Mounted on Server" field shows only the mailbox server used for active copies. This is valid for all databases, except for the Public Folder. If I use "Active only" or "Passive copy and if not available the active copy" the results are the same, the backup is done through the active copy. Using "Passive copy only" ends in failure, even if using a Preferred Server list. We tried turning all the passive copies into active copies: the problem persists while backups from the "new" active copies work fine. In the Client Selection, we use the name of the DAG, not the hostname of the Windows servers. Backup Selection is "Microsoft Exchange Database Availability Groups:\". There is a CAS server, but we are not backing it up, we only installed the NetBackup client on the Mailbox Servers. We are not using GRT. NetBackup Client Service is started as Local System. We used some accounts with equivalent permissions as the ones listed in the NB documentation, but the results did not vary. We haven't tried using the domain Administrator account yet. Circular logging is configured in most of the databases. NetBackup Master and Media have RedHat with NB 7.1.0.3.
