Backup Exec log files 38GB
We've had an issue with our server due to lack of free space. We've examined the contents of the drive and "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Logs\" is taking up 38GB of space. Can you tell me why it would take up this much space please? More importantly how do i cap it at say 10GB? We are using Backup Exec 2010 R3 on a windows 2007 sbs server. All our backups are backup to disk folders on removable drives and we backup also backup exchange and SQL. Thanks, your help is appreciated ThanksSolved12KViews1like4CommentsBE 2012 and Data Domain w/ DDBoost
Background: So we have Backup Exec 2012 and two Data Domain DD620's. We have all the required licensing including the Data Domain DD Boost and replication licenses. I have installed the Open Storage Technology (OST) plugin 2.5.0.3 as suggested for the version of BE. Both DD boxes are visable and connected to my BE server. I have foud some documentation and a video that explains some of what I am looking for but not entirely and most of it is for BE2010. The BE 2012 documentation from DD is not up to date yet. I am trying to setup backups as my tape drive has had enough and is not working properly. Anyone I have talked to just says you backup to it, then I continue finding little things that need to be done. No verify, no precompression, some said no deduplication in the job, other said server side dedupe because DDBoost manages it with OST plugin. Too much information and not enough people knowing what to tell me. The DD weekend support guys don't know the software titles they just know the hardware. I need help now unfortunately... Question: What settings do I use for Backups? I have Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, and SQL agents.6.4KViews1like32CommentsVSS Writer "retryable error" Exchange 2010 Windows 2008R2
I have seen many posts about this error, but most of them are for Exchange 2003 or 2007 or Windows 2003. This is happening on: Backup Exec 2010 R3 Windows 2008 R2, SP1 Exchange 2010 SP1 RU4 Preferred Server list has passive node first "Let Backup Exec automatically choose ..." is enabled AOFO turned off GRT enabled Error happens repeatedly, but not consistently Backup- DAGName2V-79-57344-65233 - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "\\DAGName\Microsoft Information Store\DataBase1". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). Snapshot provider error (0xE000FED1): A failure occurred querying the Writer status. Check the Windows Event Viewer for details. Writer Name: Exchange Server, Writer ID: {76FE1AC4-15F7-4BCD-987E-8E1ACB462FB7}, Last error: The VSS Writer failed, but the operation can be retried (0x800423f3), State: Failed during prepare backup operation (7). The VSS Writer list always shows "retryable error" for the Microsoft Exchange Replication Writer, and the condition only occurs on this database, which is the largest of 5 databases, at 500GB, and is the last DB to be backed up. Followed all recommendations found so far: AOFO turned off, tried re-registering VSS, but a re-boot of the passive node is the only thing that works ... sometimes. Again, no consistency, not even in the failures or successes. The past 2 nightly backups failed while the previous 3 ran successfully. Re-booting the Exchange server(s) to fix this error is ludicrous, as well as costly to our user community. Anyone have an idea of wheer/how to pursue this?5.9KViews1like5CommentsStart high priority backup job in front of other queued jobs
Netbackup 7.0 for Windows I have several backup policies, each with dozens of clients. I encounted an issue where I needed to execute an Exchange server backup immediately, so I started a manual backup from my Exchange backup policy in the NBU admin console. This policy is already set to have a higher priority than my other policies, so I thought that, when the next backup device was freed up, that the exchange job would take precedence over the other jobs in the queue. However, the other queued jobs from my other policies started instead. Is there a way to force a manual job in front of other jobs that are already queued, other than canceling all the other jobs first?Solved5KViews1like4CommentsEvent 41021 - Archived items in Vault Store Waiting to be Indexed
All, Evault 8.0 - SP4 The VAC shows a Severity Status of Critical for the following: Archived items waiting to be indexed. The numbers is very high. I've checked for any Failed Indexes but none of them contain a "Failed" status for the Vault Store reported. I've also ran an "IndexCheck.exe" and noerrors are displayed. Enterprise Vault Journal archivinglinked to the Vault Store reported in the above error is working fine with no issues. Nightly backups were successful using the trigger filebecause the number of SAVESETS for the Vault Store listed in the above critical message shows a number way below the one displayed in that particular message. Question: Is this a concern that needs to be addressed immediatly? What can I do to assure that the above message no longer appears and the amount of archive items waiting to be indexed can be reduced? Thanks for your help! Hey guys, Im having trouble with our Exchange Backup (GRT Enabled) running on BE2010 rev 2896. The job can run fine for a few days, then it fails with the following error: Final error: 0xe0001203 - An error occurred while creating or accessing the directory specified for this operation. Check to make sure that the B2D folder and/or the temporary path specified for this operation are valid. Final error category: Resource Errors V-79-57344-4611 - An error occurred creating or accessing the directory \\.pdvfs\<BE-SERVERNAME>\2\BEData specified for this operation. Ensure that the directory is accessible and can be written to. I am backing up three servers, and it fails on all of them. The errorlog provides a link, but that only refers to a restore problem. It also states that the problem was fixed in BE v12. I have checked that all temp-folders exist and can be reached. The backup destination is a dedupe folder on a iscsi san. But i can browse through the iscsi disk without problems. I've tried to both disable/enable the b2d folder, and restarted the BE server. Any ideas where the problem lays?Solved4.7KViews1like51CommentsBackupExec & EMC Datadomain
Hello; Nowadays I need to implement a deduplicated disk based backup&recovery solution for a clustered vmware system which is hosting exchange 2010 and AD servers... I have to decide how to position deduplication and backup software solutions together. In some articles I see that Symantec Backupexec and/or Netbackup is used with EMC Datadomain EMC Datadomain has deduplication feature and it's used also as a backup/recovery software. If I buy EMC Datadomain, will I need to another software Symantec Backupexec or Netbackup ? Both Backupexec and Netbackup has "deduplication" feature. If I prefer Backupexec, what's the advantage of Datadomain as an additional appliance?4.5KViews1like5CommentsOutlook is automatically Sending Draft emails
We have Windows 2000 SP4 and Outlook 2003 SP2 with the Enterprise Vault Add-in. We also have PGP_Desktop installed (with email functionality disabled). Some users are reporting that their draft emails are automatically sent...it only seems to happen with E-Store items... The below is the following steps I take to replicate the sending of drafts: •Save two e-mails in the Drafts folder •Turn Outlook offline •Reply to a estored e-mail •Turn Outlook back online (The estored e-mail will stay in Drafts) •Reply to another estored e-mail All drafts will then send, including the ones saved addressed to myself. (PGPstate that they are not touching the email, merely recording it was sent/received). Any ideas anyone? Is this a known issue?4.5KViews0likes5CommentsRestore Job Failed - Error e000848c
Trying to do a test restore of a single message on a exchange 2007 mailbox, recieveing the error "e000848c - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again." Backup jobs seem to run fine, just not the restoring. Tried the following link: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/knowledge_base_sli.jsp?umi=EvtID=V-79-57344-33932 But none of them seem to apply to my problem. The target restore is the same exchange server and storage groups. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks. Tim4.4KViews1like13CommentsCannot log on to MAPI with specified credentials
Hi, all. I've searched everywhere for a solution, but nothing seems to get me on track, here. The backup always fail with the specified error: Final error: 0xe00002fe - Cannot log on to MAPI with the specified credentials. Review the resource credentials for the job, and then run the job again. Final error category: Resource Errors For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-766 I've done everything that link tells me to do. I am now using the Administrator account to run backups, and I can logon on a workstation, open Outlook and see that everything is OK. When testing the credentials under the job setup, everything passes (The System Logon Account is administrator as well). Any hints? I am using SBS2008.Solved4.4KViews1like25Comments
