NDMP backup selection list
I have Backup Exec 2012 SP2 installed. I purchased and installed the NDMP license. I'm trying to backup some directories from ISILON (6.5.1.8). I added the NDMP storage to Backup Exec. Now when I go to the backup selction list, I only see the volume. It does not display directories under it. All it displays is "NONE" on expanding the volume. However If I completely select the volume the backup does run. But I do not want to run a backup of the complete volume. There are around 70 directories and I just want to select some 20 to 25 directories. Please help.Solved5.1KViews1like9CommentsBackup VNX CIFS share - Whats the best way?
We are starting to use CIFS file shares off of our VNX SAN. There appears to be 3 ways to back this up, either by backing up the CIFS share directly, mounting it to a server and backing it up, or using NDMP, which requires an agent. I just setup NDMP and tested it. Works very nice, however I see that you cannot redirect a restore to a non NDMP device?? Is there any trick to get this to redirect somewhere else? I don't understand why this is not possible. I don't have anything else to redirect to, so if for some reason part of the VNX that makes the CIFS work goes down, my backups will be useless until it is fixed. I have a Data Domain from EMC as well, but I don't see that I can make it an NDMP device. CIFS direct or indirect seems to be a pain. Port 10000 is used for both NDMP and the BE agents, so I actually have not even tested this. I can't figure out how to turn off NDMP on the VNX yet, and I think that is the problem. I'd imagine a CIFS backup would be tripping over a lot of open files possibly? I'd like to do a combination of both. Maybe a CIFS backup once or twice a month, but have the NDMP be the primary method. Can anyone offer any input? The only thing stopping me from going all NDMP is that it seemingly can't be redirected. If we had another VNX or Celerra, I wouldnt worry, I just like to have a good plan B in place. Hello, We were wondering if someone could offer some insight into the NDMP option for BE. Some background about our environment: BE 2010R3 is running on Windows Server 2008 R2. We are currently using an EMC VNX SAN with an NFS LUN presented through the data movers mounted on a Linux server. We are backing up this linux server using the "Follow remote mount points" option checked in the job settings and it works fine. We are wanting to explore the NDMP option and were basically wondering if it would allow us to back up data that is sitting on LUNs presented via the EMC data movers directly, bypassing the Linux box? Also, if the above is possible, should the backup method "Full - backup and delete the files" work properly? We attempted a backup job with the current configuration and it did not remove the files it backed up. It gave a warning, which led to this technote:http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH167909&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1342468986496 Any advice would be much appreciated!Solved2.4KViews0likes3CommentsNDMP Backup and Restore difficulties
Hi, We have a Dell Fluid FS8600 NAS and are using the NDMP option within Backup Exec 2014 to backup the NAS over NDMP. The backup job has been running and backing up TBs of data over the past few weeks but has started to give an error of late. The error is: - "NDMP Log Message: Mover: Data connection socket read error. NDMP Mover Halted: Internal Error NDMP Data Halted: Aborted " A full backup normally would backup over 10TB whereas the same backup job is failing after a few hundred GB with this message. where can I find further information about this error? Is there a specific NDMP log file within Backup Exec? Any help greatly appreciated. Colin.2.2KViews0likes9CommentsV-79-57344-33031 - Unable to acquire device for the specified pool and media

Hi, I got a problem when adding a EMC VNX 5400 Filer as NDMP storage. We use Backup Exec 2012 with latest Updates and Hotfixes. The following article describes our problem perfectly but the given solution doesn't work: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH195037 Because Hotfix 199190 doesn't exist any more and that stuff is included in Hotfix 201596 I installed the last one. But that didn't solve my problem. Is there any solution for this problem? FlorianSolved2KViews1like8CommentsNDMP Restore to Redirected Folder
Using Backup Exec 2012 SP2 I backed up our Dell FS7600 NAS to tape using the NDMP option and Enable History to allow for granular restores. I am now trying to restore a single folder that was originally in the \Share container on the NAS to the \Restore container on the same NAS. When selecting the location to redirect the folder to I used the Browse function and select the NDMP filer and it fills in the drive as \\mmnas:10000 . Under path I put \restore and select the NDMP backup credentials that I have tested and verified I can use the backup both the Share and Restore containers. When I select next I receive "Backup Exec can not located the destination drive that you entered. Ensure that the drive exists and tha tthe credentials are correct. Click next to continure with the path you entered. " I have tried the drive path as \\mmnas\restore \\mmnas with path = restore and I get he same results. Of course I don;t receive any errors if I select restore to original location but that is not an option for this instance. Thoughts? We have an EMC VNX and backup its file side data using the NDMP option of Backup Exec. Its been our best backup job - just solid green jobs for 3+ months. Until now... Our VNX FLARE code was updated to the latest on the file side and block, and since then BE reports 0 bytes backed up. If you look at the job log, the NDMP log shows the bytes. Backups work, and even restores, just the BE job log shows 0 bytes. My file side of the VNX is running 7.1.74-5. As far as I know its the latest version from EMC, and the Symantec HCL shows file software version 7.1 supported. Anyone else have this issue?1.8KViews1like11Comments
