IPMI does not work
Hi, we are helping a customer to configure a NetApp 5230 appliance which is upgraded from 2.5.4 to 2.6.0.3. Previously we did not configure IPMI. After the upgrade, we decide to configure IPMI. However, I followed the guidelines in NetBackup doc but it does not work. I cannot ping the IPMI port no matter what IP address I set. How to troubleshoot this? Thanks in advance.Solved8.3KViews7likes6CommentsNetBackup 7.6.1 / 2.6.1 - MSDP Conversion
After going through the 'pain' of MSDP conversion when moving appliances from 2.5.x to 2.6.0.x, whereby I saw conversion taking anywhere from 4hrs to 27hrs, I was surprised to see the conversion is required AGAIN when moving from NBU 7.6.0.3 to 7.6.1. I have only performed this upgrade in my test lab which has very little data in the MSDP pool, and is WIndows based NOT an appliance - but I am assuming this will also be the case when moving the appliances from 2.6.0.x to 2.6.1. Has anyone moved an appliance to 2.6.1 yet, and if so is the MSDP conversion a similar duration to that when moving from 2.5.x to 2.6.0.x ? As I mentioned my MSDP pool is tiny in the lab and conversion only took a minute or so. Thanks, AJ1.8KViews4likes11CommentsNetBackup Appliances 2.6.1.2 is now available!

I have found a link to this excel on two posts in this forum. As this excel refers to some external data or calculation, I cannot use it In addition, it is not adjuted to 2.6 (7.6.0.1) Who owns the source? Can I get it? If your company is like ours and has as a security model adopted using ssh on a different port than the default 22 then when you upgrade the CLISH is broken for various commands. I have not investigated all the commands but a couple of prominent ones are Monitor > Hardware ShowStatus and Hardware ShowComponents along with Support > KillRemoteCall. The resolution is to edit the /etc/ssh/ssh_config to change the port there to the port that sshd is listening on. If you have in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config Port 8222 then in the /etc/ssh/ssh_config you need to put in Port 8222. You need to make sure that the default Port 22 is commented out. No services need to be restarted. This is a change from 2.5.x where the CLISH just made internal calls. Now for certain calls it appears to issue an ssh remote command to the appliance itself and expects sshd to be listening. It is a good thing that the command did not hard code the script with port 22 but allowed the system to use the ssh_config values. There is an ETrack that has been created to address this issue and the issue that the ssh_config and sshd_config were overwritten on this upgrade and may be on subsequent upgrades.444Views2likes0CommentsNetbackup 5020 and 5030 appliances
I am simply looking for some information regarding these PDDO appliances. Are they being phased out as a result of the increased capacity of their MSDP counterparts (5220/5230)? I was in contact with one of our reps and they mentioned the 5030 was becoming obsolete because the 5230 was doubling in capacity. However, there is a major difference between obsolete and no longer to be developed and produced. While MSDP is cool, I feel that it still limits me in the area of concurrent operations and overall disk performance and for this reason, the 5030 still has a place in the data center. If Symantec plans to abandon the 5000 PDDO series in favor of the 5200 MSDP series, then they will need to increase performance to go with the capacity they are touting. We are currently at this cross-roads and are trying to determine our direction and it would seem the best decision is to use a 5030 with my own media server as opposed to locking myself into a MSDP solution with limited perfmance when comparing the two.Solved1.4KViews2likes3CommentsIPMI Port
Hi, we have 15 appliances working fine, but on two of them, we have never managed to get the IPMI interface working. We have power cycled and used know working network switch ports and cables but still no joy. We have been told to remove the power to the appliance for 10 minutes as the IPMI can get stuck in "upgrade mode" We have tried this to no avail. We have also learned the the IPMI function is on a small daughter card. I would think that the chances of 2 out 15 cards have blown are quite slim but my question is, has anyone had any experience of problems with these cards or is there any other "reset" we can do? We're using a Netbackup 5230 Appliance connected via 8Gb fibre to an HP MSL 8096 LTO 5 tape library with 4 drives. I've read many posts recommending leaving the buffer size as default: SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS : 262144 (Default) SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS_DISK : 262144 (Default) SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS_FT : 262144 (Default) This is how they are currently set, and when monitoring backups to disk, I see the following in the log: 01/29/2014 19:49:09 - Info bptm (pid=3752) using 262144 data buffer size 01/29/2014 19:49:09 - Info bptm (pid=3752) using 30 data buffers Which is expected, however, when duplicating to tape, the logs indicate the following: 01/31/2014 17:00:15 - Info bptm (pid=30607) using 65536 data buffer size 01/31/2014 17:00:15 - Info bptm (pid=30607) using 30 data buffers Can someone clarify why it would be set this way and is this as expected?
