I started seeing LiveUpdate Information About the agent for windows on at least one server does not have the most recent updates? To Install the most recent updates, on the Backup and restore tab, right click the remote computer that is out of date, and then select Update. 1. There is no indication on what server agent is out of date 2. After right clicking on each server on some I can see Update is grayed out and on some its clickable 3. Does this mean they are out of date and need to be updated? 4. What happen if I update the server will I have to reboot? 5. The server is Windows 2003 with exchange 2003 running on a cluster serves with 2 nodes 6. It seem each node might need the upgrade and the cluster seems to need 7. I am assuming after I update the active node the cluster will be up-to-date 8. Should I manually run LiveUpdate on the backup Exec server monthly and after an update I should update the clients?1.2KViews5likes18CommentsBackup Exec 2014 SP2 – Release Notes and Technical Information

I've recently migrated my jobs from BE 2010 to BE 2012. All went fine until recently, when I've changed the different Linux backup jobs. I'm guessing that -seen 'follow symbolic links' is no longer an option in BE 2012- it took the 2010 settings and migrated everything correctly. But when I've changed the job BE stored it in a 2012 format, stripping the old config. Is there a way to reactivate this, currently I'm only backing up a file instead of all the directories referenced by the symbolic link ? If contacted Symantec several times, spent some time on the phone with a technician, but they did not come up with a solution. best regards798Views4likes2CommentsBackup Exec 2010 R3 questions & issues
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forums and I'm new to backup exec so please excuse any newbie questions. I recently inherited backup exec due to people leaving my group. Its completely new to me so I had some questions. 1.) How many jobs should be ran at once within backup exec? We have 35-40 jobs and usually 4-6 jobs are running at the same time. This really seems to slow the speed of the backups. Is it normal for people to have their backupe exec setup like this or would it be better to look into another backup server to help split the load? 2.) Our main user server contains about 10TB of data. Its critical this gets backed up however it takes a very long time to back up all of this data and lately it fails due to running into corrupt data. I found a registry fix that allows it to continue backing up if it finds corrupt data. Is this a smart move or is best to avoid this "fix"? 3.) Are there any major things I should look at to help improve performance? Right now we are running R3 SP1, is it worth updating to SP2? Thanks ahead of time, any help would be greatly appreciated.Solved669Views4likes2Commentsallowed list of WSUS appliable patches
Hi, i want to start using an internal Wsus server for our clearwell servers, but i am wondering, can any Microsoft offered patch be applied? including the MS Office patches? are there certain patches that we need to exclude? If so, is there list of KB numbers that i should NOT apply to a Clearwell server? Are all MS updates tested for compatibility by Symantec? or does Symantec have a list of verified patches that are allowed to be applied?Solved1.2KViews3likes3CommentsCredential problems - Production Backups not working any more
Hi all, we have been granted the role of keeping an existing BACKUP EXEC 2012 installation despite of being unexperienced due to administrator replacement. i.e. we have no experience on this. The problem is the following: After the last patch installation on BACKUP EXEC 2012 (because someone suggested us to do so to install the remote agent on a linux server to backup) we restarted the BACKUP EXEC server and EVERY backup that had been working so far prior to this patch upgrade stopped working. The message that appears is: Job Failed. The job failed with the following error: Authentication failed on connection to the server. Make sure that the user account has the appropriate permissions and that the password was typed correctly. V-79-57344-6506 5 We have set a new password on Configuration and settings - logon accounts - manage logon accounts and when we try to select the samba folders to make a backup this is what we get: So we don't know how to carry on. Since this is the software we make production backups with we desperately need to fix this problem and make it work. Any help would be most welcome. Symantec software development employees for "Symantec System Recovery 2013 Desktop Edition": I have SSR 2013 Desktop Edition version 11.0.1.47622 right now. I am upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. I much prefer to have system image backup/restore software (like SSR 2013 Desktop Edition) as an insurance policy at all times. Unlike with Windows 8, I understand that SSR 2013 Desktop Edition will NOT work with Windows 8.1. When you try to restore a partition using the System Recovery DVD disc it fails. I wasn't too pleased to hear about this at all. I have read on the internet that Windows 8.1 was not really a major OS update. Is Symantec going to provide a new version of SSR 2013 Desktop Edition (like 11.0.2.XXXXX) in the next week or so that fully supports Windows 8.1 partition backups/restores? That would be awesome if Symantec could do this. In order to backup/restore Windows 8.1 partitions, is Symantec going to make all the SSR 2013 Desktop Edition customers wait several months and have to pay for a new version like SSR 2014 Desktop Edition? I need to know what is being done by the software developers. If I have to wait several months then I guess I'll have to shop around for new system image backup/restore software like Acronis True Image. I've been using Symantec system image software for years so I'd prefer to not have to start using another company's product.4.3KViews3likes14Comments
