I've been hit by a malicious malware (fake or not - it's in my registry looking right back at me!) called fastantimalwarescanner.com. I don't know what the source was. It's infected my registry on 2 laptops. You can read about what it does from what others have written in the Forum http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/xp-police-antivirus-what-it-and-how-heck-did-it-get-nortons By that Forum discussion, this is a weeks old problem and it has been completely ignored by Symantic - for some reason (economy? cutbacks? what?). This is a Symantic problem, because the malware even has pop-ups that use both Norton 360 trademarks and Microsoft Explorer trademarks. (Symantic, doesn't that offend you? You should be all over this, defending yourself and your customers!) What I don't get, is the only way to get rid of this is to buy somebody else's product to repair an attack on Symantic customers!!!! Wow - Norton!!!!!!! This isn't right!! Fix This!!!! Weird also is the fact that I found the above discussion thread by Googling fastantimalwarescanner.com - but Symantic does not let you find the discussion anywhere in its forums, not even by typng it in "All Contents". You can't find it I had to cut and paste it off my browser address to post the discussion here. Like they censored it. So, there it is. I don;t have to repaet what this does. Sadly, I even called Symantic tech support yesterday to ask how to fix it, and the employee didn't know anything about it. She couldn't find the name fastantimalwarescanner.com anywhere. All she could do was repeat all my words back to me. It's was surreal. Pretty soon, I interupted her and said, "You must have been trained that when you don't have a solution for a customer, just keep repeating back what the customer says". In hynotherapy training they call that rapport. It's supposed to make the client feel you are "connected". Her only solution offered was pay Norton $90 to clean my registry files by hand. I told her I had already paid for protection and repairs when I bought their product. I asked her how this was going to protect me from it happening again, when Norton 360 should be screening a weeks-old problem!! She didn't really care just repeated my words back, "You said (my sentence)". I told her that if she repeated back what I said one more time without offering me a solution, I was going to hang up. She repeated what I said and I said "good-bye". Norton, can you tell me if I should be feeling really "gyped" right now? I have to buy another company's product to remove a malware that attacks Norton 360 systems??? I hope you have the courage to reply.615Views3likes2CommentsSymantec Error Reporting Has Stopped Working.

I recently had fully encrypted hard disk (Toshiba mq01abd075), operating system (Windows 7 Professional), two partition. C (146 GB) and D (548 GB) and 4 GB Unallocated space. I ran the system restore for partition C, after which I was unable to access the operating system. I reinstalled the operating system partition C. I installed PGP WDE, when I entered in the program, partition D does not appear to be decrypted. Partition D appears in My Computer (0 bytes), in computer management at disk management appear 548 GB RAW. If I double click on it ask me for Format, but i've never click Yes, so the second partition was never touch after the problem. After this I reinstalled twice the OS. Now I have windows 8.1 but stil, but still I have not touch the second partition. I've tried to decrypt the drive with a few tutorials such as(WinPE and put the hard disk as second partition): http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH170574 http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH149478 Give me various errors suchs as: "Could not locate valid BGFS record. Recovey failed! Operation recover disk failed: Error code -11984 item not found" or "Disk 1 is not instrumented by bootguard" and others. I know was my fault. Please give me a solution. Hello, Sorry If I am in the wrong palce, to post this request but I am somewhat new to this. If there is a better place please let me know. We are recieving scattered reports that our website is being flaged as containing a virus. Below is a quotation from one such report. >When updating my contacts I followed the link to >www.worldaccessfortheblind.org and our internet security (by >Semantic) put up a big STOP sign and said this is a known >malicious web site - continue at your peril (so to speak). > >I think this is probably a mistake by Symantec and not much detail >about why except "The Norton rating is a result of Symantec's >automated analysis system." Whatever that means. > >Probably worth looking into with Symantec to get cleared up. We use a commercial hosting service for our website, and their IT manager said the following. For some reason, Symantec's "Norton Internet Security" software is flagging WAFTB's website as a malicious site and is therefore preventing access to it by those who have the Norton Internet Security product installed on their computers. I am not sure what is causing Symantec to do this. There is probably a setting that users of the product can change to allow themselves access to worldaccessfortheblind.org and bypass the security check, but I am not sure how to do it as I have never used Norton Internet Security myself. We would need to contact Symantec and request that they remove WAFTB's domain name from their list of malicious sites and find out why it was blacklisted in the first place. I am trying to find out what we must do to satisfy Symantec's need for a clean website. We are not unwilling to make the necessary chagnes but we need to know what it was about our website that was wrong. None of use Symantec and the reports from the users don't (understandably) provide enough details. I downloaded Norton 360 Version 4. Its the Comcast version. It has been running great ! Well, until i turned on my PC the other day and my definitions are 3 days old and out of date. When i click fix Norton does its live update. When its done, I get a message saying, "failed to check for some updates." Before I subscribed to Comcast. I was using AT&T Uverse. I had bought my own version of Norton 360 V.4 and it would do the same thing. It is installed on Windows 7 Ultimate. The Comcast version is installed on my laptop running XP Pro. Both still have the same problem definitions out of date. Ever since V.4 has come out. I have had problems with this problem. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled Norton 360 V.4 and it will run good for awhile and then it will not update my definitions. I get the attention fix alert. I have had a Norton tech desktop connect and update my files. That worked ,but couple weeks later i get the same attention alert. My date and time are correct. I had Norton 360 V.3 before and never had trouble till V. 4 came out. Maybe its me maybe not. I am just wondering if anyone else has ran into this problem? Is there any tips that anyone has or where on Norton can i manually update my definitions?479Views1like2Comments
