I get more frustrated everyday! When I call Symantec support and ask for a simple solution....I am always told to "run this cmd". Netbackup is suppossed to be the industry leader in backup software....so I am told. My company has spent over $500K on the netbackup software.....I can just imagine how much other compaines have spent. Here is 1 small example..... We are planning on moving our datacenter around and need to move alot of servers from this rack to that rack. Some of the servers include the netbackup servers(master & medias). Due to synthetic backups and MSDP(kudos for that)...all backups are done but the duplications to tape are still running. I have 10 duplications pending to run and they will not finish by the time we need to bring down the servers. WHY can I not just right click and hold or suspend these duplications? I am sure it would not take to much to program that into the the gui. NO I have to run some cmd that takes me 30 minutes to gather all of the information I need. Then another 30 minutes to write the cmd to release the duplications. I am sure I could come up with atleast 5 examples of where GUI improvements would make everyone's life's better. I understand that in 7.6 there are suppossed to be ALOT of improvements in SLP's and what can be done. I have been asking for these "improvements" for 3yrs now. Like I said...my company has spent ALOT of money to purchase....and for support for this product. You would think it would not take too much to program in these improvements. Maybe if more of us let Symantec know how we feel....they might do something!617Views3likes2CommentsFormer Ghost 15 user - Getting trapped in the SSR 2013 Trial
A few days ago I had an issue with doing a system restore using Ghost 15. I went to that forum for help and learned that Symantec was going to discontinue Ghost and recommended users "check out" SSR 2013 with its free trial. I downloaded the free trial and eventually learned it would not install unless I first remove Ghost. That wasn't from anything that I saw when the SSR installation failed; that happened without any additional information. However, I did eventually find my way to this forum and a helpful Guru pointed out the issue and also that I could always re-install Ghost if I wasn't happy with SSR. I uninstalled Ghost, installed SSR, and started backing stuff up. Now, if one of the things you want to do is a full system restore (my primary interest)then you need a recovery disk. SSR will make a recovery disk for you and all you need to do is provide an activation key which you don't get with the trial version. No problem, as all I need to do is install Ghost. But I can't install Ghost until I uninstall SSR. And SSR WILL NOT UNINSTALL. Whenever I try to uninstall it there's an Error 2738 and something about a VBasic error. So now I have a trial verision of a program that I can't use and a paid for program I can no longer load. I guess it can all be fixed if I pay Symantec for an activation key for a program that I'm not sure I want in the hopes it will maybe allow me to upgrade to a latter version that can uninstall so I can install the program I uninstalled so I could evaluate the Free Trial. To put it another way, I may have to pay Symantec to I can remove their free software and load back the software I paid them for as well. And, even it it turns out there's a simple, and hopefully less expensive, way out of this I've still wasted a lot of time on what should be a free trial of a comercial product which appears to be more of an alpha test. (If I sound upset, it's because I really am)2.4KViews3likes12CommentsSuggestions required on catalog size and moving master to a virtual machine
Hi all, I have two master servers in my current environment. Details are as below: Master 1: NBU 7.1.0.4 (physical) Types of backup: Combination of UNIX, Windows OS backups (with BMR enabled for physical machines), Agent based backups for SQL, Lotus Domino and Oracle. Average number of jobs that run on daily basis: 7500 (within a 14 hour backup window) No. of media servers: 15 (physical) No. of clients: Appr. 2200 Current catalog size: 1.1 TB Master 2: NBU 7.5.0.6 (physical) Types of backup: Combination of UNIX, Windows OS backups (with BMR enabled for physical machines), Agent based backups for SQL, Lotus Domino and Oracle. Average number of jobs that run on daily basis: 5000 (within a 14 hour backup window) No: of media servers: 8 (physical) No. of clients: Appr. 800 Current catalog size: 520 GB Both the masters are clustered using Veritas Global custering Option(active-passive mode). Catalog resides in a LUN which is replicated to the DR master LUN using SRDF. With more requirements coming in we are planning to introduce another master with NetBackup 7.6.0.2 on a VM. Media servers will be physical as we use tapes only. My questions are: 1) How big environment can I support with master on VM? 2) How much catalog might be a maximum recommended size on a master hosted ona VM? 3) Our observation from our current 2 masters- Even though Master 2 has less than half the number of clients as Master 1, the catalog size has already reached 520 GB and is still growing (the type of clients is similar). Is this because of the difference in version of NetBackup? Do recent versions add more to the catalog? If yes, then should I expect a bigger catalog on 7.6.0.2? I am simply looking for some information regarding these PDDO appliances. Are they being phased out as a result of the increased capacity of their MSDP counterparts (5220/5230)? I was in contact with one of our reps and they mentioned the 5030 was becoming obsolete because the 5230 was doubling in capacity. However, there is a major difference between obsolete and no longer to be developed and produced. While MSDP is cool, I feel that it still limits me in the area of concurrent operations and overall disk performance and for this reason, the 5030 still has a place in the data center. If Symantec plans to abandon the 5000 PDDO series in favor of the 5200 MSDP series, then they will need to increase performance to go with the capacity they are touting. We are currently at this cross-roads and are trying to determine our direction and it would seem the best decision is to use a 5030 with my own media server as opposed to locking myself into a MSDP solution with limited perfmance when comparing the two.Solved1.4KViews2likes3CommentsSharepoint backup failure
Hi, The backup is failing with the following error: Job ended: Friday, September 19, 2014 at 6:37:58 AM Completed status: Failed Final error: 0xe000fe49 - An invalid parameter was specified. Final error category: Job Errors For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-65097 V-79-57344-33899 - The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Agent for Windows. The correct version of the Agent for Windows must be running on the target computer. How could this issue be solved?
