Cannot expand Virtual Vault after Outlook 2013 installation
Hi All, We are currently in the middle of an Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2013 POC & to date we have had some challenges in regards to the functionality of the Virtual Vault after the installation of Outlook 2013. Outlook 2013 installs without error. We then launch Outlook all looks well with the Virtual Vault in the navigation pane, however when you click on the Virtual Vault to expand the folder set you get the error message "Cannot expand the folder. The set of folders cannot be opened. An unexpected error has occured. MAPI was unable to load the information service EVMSP.DLL. Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured". To set the scene we have the current configuration on our POC test case machine - Outlook 2007 SP3 installed side by side with Outlook 2013 15.0.4649.1001 : - Enterprise Vault Outlook Addin 10.0.4.1293 - Outlook 2007 SP3 user with Virtual Vault working as expected - Outlook 2013 15.0.4649.1001 with Virtual Vault, however cannot expand folder set because of the MAPI error above. In order to re-enable the Vault we have had to do one of two tasks below: 1. As part of the Outlook 2013 installation script we perform a repair of the Enterprise Vault add-in, which results in most cases of a working Virtual Vault upon completion of the installation of Outlook. 2. By running the following command rundll32 EVMSP32.dll,MergeEVMSPWithMAPISVC To my understanding the reason for this MAPI error is a result of the new installation of Outlook 2013 creating a new MAPISVC.INF where the Enterprise Vault services have not been registered. This then results in the Virtual Vault not functioning as expected. In performing one of the two tasks below this registers the service with MAPI, which results in a working Virtual Vault. What i would like to understand is if anyone in the forum has come across an issue like this & what approach you have taken to resolve it. Any insight, suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, ScottSolved4.9KViews1like5CommentsEnterprise Vault Retention Settings
Hi everyone, I as of yesterday have been handed responsibility of the Enterprise Vault for my company. I have a little bit of experience with the product, but right just winging it until I full understand it. We of course have no documentation available so I have been reading through Symantec posts here on the forums. I do however have a few questions when it comes to emails being deleted from the vault and the retention period involved. As of today our site's Storage Expiry is set to have emails expire based on the Archived Date. Now that's cool, but I can't find anywhere in the VAC which tells me how many months or years these emails are kept based on the archived date. It could be 6 months from the archived date or it could be 3 years. I don't know and I cannot find anything telling me this in the VAC. I attempted to look up Storage Expiry reports in the event viewer, but could not find the event ID's 7085 or 7086 since we are on EV v10.02.1112. Our email environment is Exchange 2010. On the VAC, when I look at mailboxes in the Archives, I see the Expired Items say "Will be deleted", so I know they are deleting. That being said, does anyone in the community here know where I can in the VAC or otherwise and find how many months or years emails are kept in the vault based on the Archived Date? When I look at the Archive Settings for the site, the retention category has been labeled Business. When I look in Exchange though, I see no retention policy called Business, so my impression is this an Enterprise Vault retention policy. I have found no way to see the date range associated with the this "Business" policy either. Can anyone point me in the right direction?Solved4.1KViews1like7CommentsEV | Powershell | Enable Mailboxes for Archiving | How to?
Hi I would like to automate this procedure using Powershell. Do you have an example of a Powershell script which can be used? When I manually enable the mailboxes for archive all I do is use the "Enable mailboxes for Archiving" > List all available mailboxes > New mailboxes only > select the user > go next Vault Store and Retention Category are defaults > next The mailboxe primary account > next Immediatly using the default archivning settings > Finish I will then create a shell so all I need to do is insert the username. Hi, I have an environment with 2 Exchange 2010 Mailbox servers, in a DAG. There are some 6 databases in the DAG and a few standalone ones. For some reason the Exchange Mailbox Task, for both mailbox servers, is only showing 1 database. One of these databases doesn't even exist anymore. From looking around I believe this list should be updated by the Exchange Provisioning Task. This task seems to run fine and if I run the report (full or brief) I can see no errors. Although I can see no information regarding the databases either, only regarding the users it's processed. I've tried re-creating the Provisioning Task as well as the Exchange Mailbox tasks but every time the target list is the same. Am I missing something or does something not look right? This installation of EV is not in production yet. Enterprise Vault Version: 11.0.0.1351, Server 2008 R2, Exchange 2010 Thanks for any help.Solved3.2KViews1like8CommentsEnterprise Vault mailboxes have "Automatically set" permissions
Hi everyone, Question for the group. This could be something I'm missing easily, but wanted some clear guidance on dealing with the issue. So I've got users who have access to everyone's vault. When I attempt to remove their access, I am told they cannot be removed as they have "automatically set" permissions associated with it. Now I've read that I can "zap" the permissions. What I want to do is make it so everyone has access to their own vaults and no one elses. I found the EVPM.exe and a folder called EVPMScripts that has a file called GrantVSAAccess.ini in it. [Directory] DirectoryComputerName=Server Name Site Name= Site [ArchivePermissions] ArchiveName = ALL GrantAccess = delete read write,Service Account I'm assuming this is where I need to go access the permissions so not everyone and their mother access to everyone's vaults. Do I need to make a new ini file and run that? How exactly do I zap these permissions and reset everyone to just have their own? Thanks everyone!Solved3KViews1like6CommentsEnterprise Vault items in Outlook show waiting icon
Hello, I have installed Enterprise Vault 11 and I have started to archive a couple of test email boxes. Inside the vault, I can search the archives, so they have been archiving correctly, but on Outlook 2010 the icon is showing the timer, rather than the fully achieve item. Also, when you open up an item, there is a bar at the top of the screen that says, "Do not copy, move, or delete this item. Either Enterprise Vault is archiving the item, or it has been archived and is awaiting backup." Can anyone please help?2.8KViews0likes5CommentsOutlook 2010 Vault cache synchronization failed

Hi all, I am pretty new to Enterprise Vault and I am learning about it. Currently I have a very big problem in our environment. Indexing is not working. We have two servers for indexing. Both are in a Index Server Group. In that, one server has been completely taken out from the environment. The other one is still running. I am not able to delete the server which is taken out from the environment from the administration console. When I delete it, I get the error message The computer contains Services. You need to delete all these Services before you can delete the Computer. When I tried to delete the Services - I get the error message : "Could not determine if the Enterprise Vault Server running on (server name) is part of a cluster. No such host is known. When I tried to delete the task associated with that server I get the error message : "The task cannot be deleted because there are indexing operations associated with this task. I checked completely and I don't see any indexing task associated with that server. Event IDs that I get stating indexing is not working are : 41021, 41008, 41011, 41291, 41259 I searched online, but it doesn't give me a correct path to troubleshoot. My Questions : 1. Should all the servers in the Indexing Server Group should be in working condition ?? 2. If not, the another server is still running, but all the indexing jobs are struck and not moving. Environment Information. EV Archiving Server Windows 2008 R2 Standard Service Pack 1 Enterprise Vault Version : 11.0.1.3527 EV Indexing Server Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard. Hello Forum, I'm receiving Event ID 10028 (DCOM) randomly throughout the day: DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer evserver1.domain.com using any of the configured protocols; requested by PID cbb0 (C:\Windows\SysWOW64\inetsrv\w3wp.exe). 1. The source server and destination service are one in the same. 2. Firewall is disabled on the server as well. 3. "Enable Distributed COM on this computer" is checked. "Enable COM Internet Services on this computer" is not. 4. The user listed on each event is different, so I'm not sure if that's relevant. But it is not the VSA calling this action. It appears to be regular users. Any further hlep would be appreciated. Thanks!2KViews0likes1CommentMSMQ a1 get high and archiving is slow
Hello, At a customer with EV10.0.4 we have the following problem. The EV server have a high a1 queue and is still getting higher (over 1000 items). When the archive task runs we see in the brief report that it has archived 5 mailboxes in 7 hours. It has still 680 mailboxes to do in the a5 queue so it wil take weeks before all mailboxes are finished. We have just one mailbox task (one Exchange server 2013) and do not use PSTs. The EV server has 16GB memory, 4 CPU's with Windows Server 2012 R2. We have set the mailbox archiving task to do 8 concurrent jobs. When it is done with archiving, the EV server stops archiving and CPU is still below 10%, nothing happen. Manual archiving items worked before but will not work, the a3 queue will get higher but still a shortcut that item is being archived (clock icon). After restart EV it looks like it was working but after the weekend it doesn't work anymore. Can someone help us to troubleshoot this problem? is there something we can do? I want to do a trace, but what is the best way to trace this kind of problem. There are not that mucht errors in the event log so it looks like it works fine. Just another thing, after the EV server reboots, the indexing service stops but when we start it again it will running and stays stable. Is it because there is still about 3-5% free disk space on the disk where the indexes are saved? I hope someone can help.Solved1.9KViews0likes5Comments
