Netbackup Tape writing behaviour
Hello All, I have a question about tape retention. The question may be stupid and /i think i know the answer, but I am not sure. In a situation where netbackup is writing a frontend(client to tape) or SLP driven deduplication backup (disk to tape).. and for some reason the backup fails. What happens to the data that has already been written on the tape? Is it retained as per the policy schedule retention that is defined or is it discarded? Also what happens to such a tape where the backup that was writing to it failed before it could complete? Is there a way of identifying such tapes? Maybe erasing them and putting them i nthe scratch pool? Any help is fully appreciated. Kind Regards, Jay

About duplicating tapes or cloning tapes
Good morning to everybody! I have a need and I would like to know if it is possible to solve it. I have a backup stored on physical tapes, which is very important to the business. For auditing purposes, it is often required to restore the backups that are on those tapes. But due to business protocols, it is not possible to leave the tapes inside the library forever. Worflow is: - Restoration is requested - Tapes are ordered from the supplier - Tapes are placed in the library - Data is restored - Tapes are removed and delivered to the supplier. So, I would like to know if it is possible to "clone" or copy the tape to another physical tape, in this way we can store the "original" tapes in the provider, and we would leave the "cloned" ones in the library for the purposes of frequent restorations. Is it possible to do this? Or, failing that, is it possible to duplicate the images (stored in a tape) onto another tape? If possible, I would be grateful if you can guide me. In short, we are asked to have a 2nd copy of the images that are hosted on tapes, on other tapes. My environment is: NetBackup Appliance, NetBackup 8.1.2

Hardware Encrypted Tape
Hi, I have a site that will be closing that uses a Spectra Logic library with encryption key set, I was wondering what is the best proceedure to reuse the tapes in our other libraries, is it a case of importing the old site library key into the other library or can I create a volume pool and place these in the library and run a relable or erase on each tape?7 Apologies if this is in the incorrect forum, if the admin can move it to the right one it would be appreciated.
