WebUI issue on BE3600
Hello, One of my customer is facing a weird issue. The WebUI is not functionnal on his BE3600R3 appliance. So I logged in the appliance using RDP to check if can see some event ... No event found (or maybe I missed them) In fact the probleme is arround OpsCenter WebServer service and OpsCenter Server service. I am able to start them manually using opsadmin.bat or services.msc but they stop just 2 minutes later ... Any idea ?542Views0likes1CommentBE3600 Appliance clean upgrade to R3
Does anyone know or have suggestions on the best method to upgrade the BE3600 appliance to R3, with the catch that I want to completely wipe all data on it? Is there a way to clean install R3 from scratch, or should I just wipe the dedupe storage pool and upgrade like normal. Basically, the appliance is in a horrible state, and I want to avoid upgrading it and it having the same backup issues that we are currently seeing with it. (not to mention, with over 40TB of deduped data, it can take weeks to delete backup sets sometimes, other times the only way to get it backing up again was to reboot it, etc). I just want to make sure that I am starting R3 with a clean slate and a pristine image. Yes, I know that R4 is coming out in a week or two, but at this point it is not backing up at all, and we need it done immediatly (can't wait until August 3rd).... Now if there is an engineer on here that would want to provideme with the R4 ISO, and help me with a clean install this weekend... I'd be ok with that :) Thanks guys!Solved728Views0likes1CommentAccess Denied using Admin Console post R3 Upgrade - unable to enable RDP as well
We just upgraded one of our two 3600 appliances to R3 and when we launch the Backup Exec Administration Console from the Web GUI we get"Access Denied" the same as if we tried to RDP directly to the appliance. Using powershell to enable remote desktop for troubleshooting no longer works either. We have a case open but have not had a call back yet and we are unable to run backups so this is kind of critical. Any ideas?947Views0likes3CommentsBackup Exec 3600 appliance backup VMware vSphere 5.5 issue
Hello Symantec Team, I have a client who is facing some backup challenges. Infrastructure: Backup technology: Symantec Backup Exec 3600. This is an appliance that comes with a Windows 2008 OS preinstalled. Virtual infrastructure: VMware hosts 5.5, multiple hosts in a cluster, multiple VMs all Windows OS[2008,R2/2012] Issue: We have been unable to backup hosts using the Symantec Backup Appliance. We have a number of Centos hosts that Symantec does not support using the file level backup so we wanted to back up the complete image. We tried doing this and was unsuccessful. We had a dhcp server that actually crashed when the backup ran at night and resulted in a network outage the following morning. There is also a physical host that we are unable to backup . As we discussed most of our servers are not part of our enterprise AD domain. We have a few that is part of a standalone domain that the network group uses. Ultimately, we would like to have all the hosts in our vmware environment backed up. There is also a critical standalone host that runs Windows 2003 that we need to backup as well Any ideas to resolve this issue? Appliance was R2, was upgrading to R3 twice, once in September and once again at the end of October. Ops center crashed on the first appliance. 3 months ago I was sitting at 2.3 to 2.5TB of dedupe storage at a 16.1:1 ratio, this was directly before the first upgrade. So I had about 37.03-40.25TB of hydrated data. Since then I obviously have upgraded the appliance on around Sept 16. Looking in the adamm.log is where you can really tell it starts to grow from that point until now, because within 2 weeks it climbed a TB. Now I am at 4.88 TB and about to fill up the storage. I am manually having to delete the oldest backups sets trying to reclaim some data. My dedupe ratio is now at 10:1. Since I have only jumped up 7-8TB of hydrated data, but yet have doubled the amount of space taken up with the dedupe something seems wrong. I have only added 3 servers to the mix since Sept 16th, which each house about 50GB of data. All jobs follow a basic template with a few being different: 1 full a month with differentials in between. The fulls kept for 95 days and the differentials kept for 32 days. I have a ticket open on this but the tech doesn't believe anything is wrong. We looked in the audit log and it show media being reclaimed and deleted, but I don't think this is a consistent case. Right now I have a lot of Expired backup sets that are not being deleted. Some I think are being affected by the known bug that is not deleting backup sets that were taken with 2012. Other though I expired yesterday morning and they are still there, other are deleted right away. My environment is all Windows. I have almost half 2012R2, almost half 2003 and a couple of 2008 and 2 Windows 7. I only have 2 or 3 out of 20 servers being backed up that have more than 100GB on them and only 10 of the have more than 50GB. One of the ones with more than 100GB has 800GB of data on it, 1/4 of it being pictures which I know do not dedupe well, but this servers was being backed up pre upgrade to 2012 with no issues. The other server having more than 100GB of data is a file server with 200-300 GB on it, which resides on a windows dedupe storage which takes it down to 150-200GB. To me there is no way, in my environment that going from 37-40TB of hydrated data/2.3-2.4TB dedupe at 16.1:1 ratio, and it sat this way for 4 months leading up to the 2014 upgrade.....to 47-48TB of hydrated data with 4.88Tb when deduped at 10:1 ratio within 2 months of the upgrade is correct. The only reason I haven't filled up my dedupe yet is I am manually expiring backup sets. But it is still climbing and the dedupe ratio is going down and I won't be able to fight it off for longer without doing more drastic expirations. Is anyone else experiencing something similar? Is there anymore information I can give that would help?823Views0likes4CommentsChinese named server detected
Hi again, after upgrading from BE2012 to 2014 i noticed 2 server with chinese characters in the server's list, no way to find what they were, so i decided to remove them from the list. Both Linux machines. Now after some like a month those servers are back, 6 servers with chinese name, 4 linux and 2 windows. I've been checking properties and so on to be able to get what BE2014 recognize, but no luck. Im quite sure those servers are "real" and for some reason the appliance simply can't grab the true name or ip. I've been able to delete 4 of them, two remaining linux servers are undeletable. Been trying to test credentials against to be able to understand what it is, nothing happened..... Any idea? Below there's a snapshot of the serversSolved655Views0likes4Comments3600 Appliance: Tape Library continually goes offline
Hi, We have a pair of 3600 R2 appliances. One is a CASO with an HP MSL2024 LT05 tape library attached and the other is an MMS. We can take backups and duplicate them between appliances no problem, but when we try to schedule a backup to tape Backup Exec marks the tape library as offline. This happens probably 80% of the time and isn't stable enough for us to take the system live to replace our existing Arcserve system. We've been trying for months now to get Backup Exec live. There isn't an issue with the tape library as it's running normally. The problem lies with Backup Exec marking it as offline. The appliance event log shows event ID 11 "the driver detected a controller error on /device/raidport2". Windows Device Manager shows both the tape library and tape drive. The drivers are the symantec drivers and were installed by Backup Exec. Has anyone had a similar issue or can provide tips on resolution? For info we have this logged as a high priority incident with Symantec, however they tried to contact me in the middle of the night a couple of days ago and haven't contacted me since. Hy all, I'm trying to upgrade the appliance of one of my customers. I'm following this TN:http://www.symantec.com/business/support//index?page=content&pmv=print&impressions=&viewlocale=&id=HOWTO101525 and i'm allready stuck in the prerequisites. the HF they mention isn't found by the appliance. Even if I open an RDP to the appliance and launch the live update directly from the server, the hotfix isn't found. if I try to bypass it, and continue, i'm unable to launch the command "upgrade-appliance" in the powershell session I have allready opened a case at symantec, but maybe the solution will be provided faster in this groupSolved1.7KViews0likes11CommentsBackup Exec appliance 3600 server Lockup/Freeze
