Backup vSphere virtual machines without snapshot
Hello everybody, I have a environment with backup exec 2010 R3 and vSphere 4.1. I have the backupexec agent installed on the Vcenter server. I have a virtual machine with a large disk (2 TB) and I want to backup the virtual machine to tape without do a snapshot. vSphere requires a large disk to perform the snapshot and it fails whe I run the backup from BackupExec. Is there any way to perform a backup witouh do the snapshot? The virtual machine is off and I don't need to do the snapshot, only want to copy the files from the ESX server to the tape. How can I do it? Thanks in advanceSolved2.4KViews8likes6CommentsP2V migration to VMware ESXi 5.x using System Recovery 2011
I need to do a P2V migration of a SBS 2003 to a VMware ESXi 5.x. We have Symantec System Recovery 2011 installed on the SBS. What's the best way of doing this: Hotclone Run a System Recovery backup (creates a .sv2i and .v2i images) Use System Recovery to restore the .sv2i to the ESXi host OR... Use VMware Converter to convert the .sv2i to the ESXi host Coldclone (is this even possible to an ESXi 5.x?) Boot off supplied Symantec Recovery CD Run backup direct to the ESXi host Is there a preferred method? Any other tips (i.e. hot vs cold clone)? Anything I should watch out for (i.e. DC, Exchange DB)? Many thanks.Solved1.8KViews7likes9CommentsNetwork setings missing from vm restore
We are currently busy performing a live DR test of all our prod servers consisting of 2003 and 2008 Windows servers. The 2003 servers restore no problem. The restore job for the 2008 servers also finish successfully. However when starting up the 2008 servers it no longer hav ethe same network settins that it had when being backed up. We ran a similar test last year following the same procedure in which all servers restored no problem. We are currently runing BackupExec 2010 R2. In the virtual environment the only thing which changed is that we upgeaded from ESX\ESXi 4.1 U1 to 4.1 U2 at which time all NICs were upgraded to vmxnet3. The NICs seem to have loaded with default settings. IP6 on and configured for DHCP as apposed to IP4 on with the original IP configured. Has anyone else experiance this or have an idea on how to resotre these 2008 servers without having to reconfigure all the network settings?Solved2.2KViews7likes4CommentsvSphere 5.1 Support Update
Symantec and VMware are unwaveringly dedicated to quality in our jointly developed solutions. During our testing with the VMware vStorage 5.1 API Symantec discovered issues* that introduce data recovery risks. We raised these concerns with our friends at VMware, who documented them in their knowledge base and in the VMware vSphere 5.1 release notes. VMware expects to release a vStorage API update, and at that time we expect to retest and once again support joint solutions. Hi, Can anyone share what is the best pratice to do after you archive the Exchange Server mailboxes with EV according to this article (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH67757) ? Do you still keep it or can you safely delete it from the Exchange Server which will means it deletes the AD account as well. I've never delete all of my Exchange Server mailboxes in the company before because i do not know what or how to access the archived email from the EV console. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. ThanksSolved1.4KViews4likes5CommentsBackup Exec 2010 Videos

Hi All, I'd like to know if I'm getting this correctly. I'm planning to getNetbackup 7 Starter Editionaccording tob-symc_netbackup_7_core_DS_12995286-2.en-us.pdf(http://eval.symantec.com/mktginfo/enterprise/fact_sheets/b-symc_netbackup_7_core_DS_12995286-2.en-us.pdf)Table 2. the Edition comparison the Starter Edition can have 5 Server (supported clients) does this means i can have the following backup items: 1x ESXi 4 server (using vStorage API for inline deduplication - Change Block Tracking) 1x Solaris SPARC + Oracle DB 10gR2 1x Linux 1x Windows Server + Share Point 2007 (Granular restore) 1x Windows Server + Exchange Server 2007(Granular restore) all of the above with bare metal restore capability. Since it is said that i could have: Server Clients, Tape Drive and Database Agents included ? yes I understand that Deduplication is not included here since it will need another license to spend. I'm getting confused here of which product that i should get :-| Would be good if anyone can clarify this please ?Solved1.2KViews4likes6CommentsvSphere 5.1 Support Update

Hi All, I am moving over from the old netbackup 6.5 to 7.5 and am trying to iron out some of the issues before turning off the old system. I have a policy which backs up all VMware hosts. It does most of them without too much bother but gets stuck with a few. It seems to get stuck when doing the snapshot in VMWare I have searched the forum and have tried the solution to issues which I thought were the same but not getting anything. There are other machines in the policy which seems to work ok. I have compared the details on the host sides and can't see anything outstanding. I would be very greatful if anyone could shed any light on this at all. I have put in the output from the job description please let me know if any other information would be helpful.
