Hi, i'm a newbie to this backup exec 2012, and recently we have active contract on supporting this Backup Exec 2012. By supporting this, we need to perform health check or software preventive maintenance on the servers equipped with backup exec 2012 on quarterly basis. Just want to know that whether there are some guidelines or procedures/steps on what we need to include in the health check such as services, connections, patches? Please share with me if anyone know how to prepare a backup exec 2012 health check checklist in order to perform the preventive maintenance for the servers. Thanks1.7KViews2likes5CommentsDO NOT ATTEMPT TO SERVERS visualized edit tasks
Good evening friends, I have a problem with Backup Exec 2010 R3, what happens to edit tasks and I do not see where servers make selections, how rare is not outputting any backup error and if they work, if I can help display the servers, I have not made significant changes so I find it very strange and no error logs out to look at the page SYMANTEC ... If anyone happened to your prompt response is critical fixed soon. THANKS.Solved1.3KViews0likes14CommentsE000FE30 - A communications failure has occurred in Backup Exec Error
Hi! I'm trying to restore VM form Tape, backed up with Backup Exec 2010 13.0. Full backup restores without any problem, there is problem when trying restore from Incremental backup Restore Job properties: I'm using VMware redirection to ESXi 5.0 server. Everything seems to work well at the begining, but after few minutes Byte Count stops, and Job rate successively goes down, Tape Autoloader starts with daily (with incrementals) tape loading after long time restore job are crashing with "0xe000fe30 - A communications failure has occurred" Backups are encrypted Problem is observed by me on 2 separate installations of Symantec Backup Exec, Tape drivers from symantec are installed, VMware Converter are installed on that server also. We recently moved a physical server (all configs, files, apps, basically everything) to a vm to save space in our server rack. We left everything alone with backup exec for the nightly backup, due to the fact the servername, ip address, and backup exec agent moved with the transfer. Now everything for this specific server backed up correctly execpt the "Utility Partition". Is this option available for physical servers, because i did a little reading that this was an option for manufacturer partitions on hard drives. What are my options?Solved644Views2likes2CommentsRestoring Full DB + Archive logs (SAP agent / oracle backend)

Installed BE 2010 R2 on a virtual Server 2008 R2 (VMware) cannot identify DLT IV tapes. I can label a tape on my Quantum SCSI drives, and the tape is correctly shown in the media list. Aftern a reboot, the tape get recognised as "" (no label) and imported foreign tape of unknown type. Backups to disk work fine. But how to get running backups to tape, which can be restored?Solved572Views0likes1CommentTape media identification fails
After upgrade of all our PCs to Windows 7 Enterprise (64bit) we tried to replace BE 2010 with a new BE 2010 R2 installation. This is not supported. Thus we installed it on a virtual (VMware) Server 2008 R2 with DLT V4/DLT-VS1 Quantum tape units. Step 1 works fine: write label on tape (to get it registered in BE), execute a backup on either disk or tape, restore this data. Step 2a: with Symantec drivers installed in the tape units: after labeling one tape in a tapeunit (and optionally writing some backup on it), then eject the tape and mount another one. Inventory identified any tape as the one, which was in last. Wite a new label will change the name of that only tape in the BE DB. Putting back in the first tape, it appears again under this new name. Restore is possible. Step 2b: with Quantum drivers installed in the tape units: after labeling one tape in a tapeunit (and optionally writing some backup on it), then eject the tape and mount another one. Inventory will show it as an unknown foreign tape (if it is not new, but rather was already used in an older BE installation). Put back in the first tape, it gets identified correctly and restore ist possible. Step 3: with either driver loaded in the tape units: after a reboot, none of the already registered tape can be identified any more. Any tape media (wether already labeled on this BE instance or comming from another BE installation) is identified as a no-name tape of type "Imported/Foreign Media" with unknown format. Even if a backup was written in this BE installation before the reboot, catalog or restore date will fail due to unkown format. Is there a configuration option or a patch available to make tapes identifiable again, even over reboots? Best regards EBSolved633Views0likes1Comment
