Windows 10? New software update for Symantec System Recovery 2013 Desktop Edition?
I am currently using Symantec System Recovery 2013 R2 with my Windows 8.1 based desktop PC. I am planning on upgrading to Windows 10 on July 29, 2015 when Windows 10 is released. I've been relying on Norton Ghost and SSR 2013 to do full system images for years. Is Symantec currently working on software for Symantec System Recovery 2013 so that it will be compatible with Windows 10? Will Symantec be offering a FREE update patch to Symantec System Recovery 2013 that will make it compatible with Windows 10? Will it be called Symantec System Recovery 2013 R3 or something else like Symantec System Recovery 2015? I would like to see SSR 2013 tested and certified as compatible with Windows 10 as soon as possible. I would prefer not to have switch to another vendor's system image backup software like Acronis. Their website is saying that you can get a free software update for Windows 10 compatibility for Acronis True Image 2015.34KViews12likes385Comments- 843Views4likes3Comments
Symantec System Recovery 2013 Desktop Edition and Windows 8.1 compatibility
Symantec software development employees for "Symantec System Recovery 2013 Desktop Edition": I have SSR 2013 Desktop Edition version 11.0.1.47622 right now. I am upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. I much prefer to have system image backup/restore software (like SSR 2013 Desktop Edition) as an insurance policy at all times. Unlike with Windows 8, I understand that SSR 2013 Desktop Edition will NOT work with Windows 8.1. When you try to restore a partition using the System Recovery DVD disc it fails. I wasn't too pleased to hear about this at all. I have read on the internet that Windows 8.1 was not reallya major OS update. Is Symantec going to provide a new version of SSR 2013 Desktop Edition (like 11.0.2.XXXXX) in the next week or so that fully supports Windows 8.1 partition backups/restores? That would be awesome if Symantec could do this. In order to backup/restore Windows 8.1 partitions, is Symantec going to make all the SSR 2013 Desktop Edition customers wait several months and have to pay for a new version like SSR 2014 Desktop Edition? I need to know what is being done by the software developers. If I have to wait several months then I guess I'll have to shop around for new system image backup/restore software like Acronis True Image. I've been using Symantec system image software for years so I'd prefer to not have to start using another company's product.4.3KViews3likes14CommentsOff to a bad start with System Recovery 2013 R2 SP4
I was glad to see the long awaited System Recovery 2013 R2 SP4 version out today so I downloaded it and thought I'd get right to testing it on my first system. Unfortunatly, I cannot even install the product. I'm trying to install on a system with the following characteristics: ------------ Intel Core i7 Processor 32GB RAM Boot Drive is a 500GB SSD OS is Windows 10 with the November 2015 update, 64-Bit ------------ I launch the install by running "browser.exe". I get the initial welcome screen with the various elements such as Getting Started, Installation, etc. At this point I click on "Install Now". At this point a screen opens that says "Loading the install. Please wait..." but within about 2 seconds the screen disappears and nothing more happens. Note that there is no error message, the program just seems to go away completely and the "Setup Launcher" disappears from the task list if I'm monitoring it while I attempt the install. As a test, I tried the install on a Windows 7 system and it worked perfectly. Is this possibly a problem with the November Update to Windows 10? I sure hope that we don't have to wait for another update that supports the November Update :-) Anyone else having any better luck than me?Solved6.3KViews2likes47CommentsInvalid target drive
Occasionally whenI boot into the recovery screen (using LOR) and select a date recovery SSR shows invalid target drive. The remedy is to highlight the recovery point and select edit, then select the target volume and then OK. Then go back to the recovery screen and select recover my computer, select the date recovery point and the target becomes valid again. I had this issue when testing last year and I would have thought by nowthis issue should have been resolved. I did say when testing that I would monitor the situation and report accordingly. When you need to re-image a machine this sort of thing shouldn't be happening. Deric2.9KViews2likes48CommentsWindows Server 2012 R2 UEFI Restore Impossible?
I'm trying to do something that is dead simple, but frustratingly it's killing me... One little thing, just trying to backup and restore Windows Server 2012 R2 on an Intel i7 PC that's in UEFI mode with GPT partitions on a SATA SSD drive. Symantec System Recovery 2013 SP2 x64 v11.0.2.49853 has no problem going through the paces of restoring the backup, but afterward Windows fails to boot. I even went to the extent of wiping the C drive (and all the partitions), reinstalled WS2012 R2 Data Center GUI (nothing else except a network driver and SSR), backed up freshly installed WS2012 R2 to an external USB drive using SSR installed inside Windows, wiped the C drive (and all the partitions) and restored the backup, but all that effort didn't matter. PC still won't boot Windows. I also tried restoring the 100MB EFI Partition first, followed by the operating system and Recovery partitions, still no help. The only odd thing I see is inside the WinPE SRD, About - Symantec System Recovery Disk shows versions that seem old even though it was just extracted from the latest v11.0.2.49853 download zip file (although the SRD .iso file date of 12/15/13 is older than the SSR SP2 11.0.2 update that supposedly fixed UEFI problems). Do you see anything usual or something that I'm doing wrong? Please help because obviously I am unhealthily obsessed with this problem! ;-) Thanks!
