Windows 10? New software update for Symantec System Recovery 2013 Desktop Edition?
I am currently using Symantec System Recovery 2013 R2 with my Windows 8.1 based desktop PC. I am planning on upgrading to Windows 10 on July 29, 2015 when Windows 10 is released. I've been relying on Norton Ghost and SSR 2013 to do full system images for years. Is Symantec currently working on software for Symantec System Recovery 2013 so that it will be compatible with Windows 10? Will Symantec be offering a FREE update patch to Symantec System Recovery 2013 that will make it compatible with Windows 10? Will it be called Symantec System Recovery 2013 R3 or something else like Symantec System Recovery 2015? I would like to see SSR 2013 tested and certified as compatible with Windows 10 as soon as possible. I would prefer not to have switch to another vendor's system image backup software like Acronis. Their website is saying that you can get a free software update for Windows 10 compatibility for Acronis True Image 2015.34KViews12likes385CommentsOff to a bad start with System Recovery 2013 R2 SP4
I was glad to see the long awaited System Recovery 2013 R2 SP4 version out today so I downloaded it and thought I'd get right to testing it on my first system. Unfortunatly, I cannot even install the product. I'm trying to install on a system with the following characteristics: ------------ Intel Core i7 Processor 32GB RAM Boot Drive is a 500GB SSD OS is Windows 10 with the November 2015 update, 64-Bit ------------ I launch the install by running "browser.exe". I get the initial welcome screen with the various elements such as Getting Started, Installation, etc. At this point I click on "Install Now". At this point a screen opens that says "Loading the install. Please wait..." but within about 2 seconds the screen disappears and nothing more happens. Note that there is no error message, the program just seems to go away completely and the "Setup Launcher" disappears from the task list if I'm monitoring it while I attempt the install. As a test, I tried the install on a Windows 7 system and it worked perfectly. Is this possibly a problem with the November Update to Windows 10? I sure hope that we don't have to wait for another update that supports the November Update :-) Anyone else having any better luck than me?Solved6.3KViews2likes47CommentsSSR 2013 Trial - VSS_E_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE error
Just downloaded SSR 2013 trial. (I was a Ghost 15 user, but upgraded to Windows 8 so can no longer use Ghost.) On my first attempt to do a backup of my drive, I got a VSS_E_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE error. A bit of online research made me think I had to go to System Properties|System Protection and increase the amount of disk space available for system protection, which I did. I increased it from about 9GB to about 100GB. That did not help. FWIW, my hard drive is about 923GB, with about 760GB free. Any guidance? Many thanks. I'm trying to do something that is dead simple, but frustratingly it's killing me... One little thing, just trying to backup and restore Windows Server 2012 R2 on an Intel i7 PC that's in UEFI mode with GPT partitions on a SATA SSD drive. Symantec System Recovery 2013 SP2 x64 v11.0.2.49853 has no problem going through the paces of restoring the backup, but afterward Windows fails to boot. I even went to the extent of wiping the C drive (and all the partitions), reinstalled WS2012 R2 Data Center GUI (nothing else except a network driver and SSR), backed up freshly installed WS2012 R2 to an external USB drive using SSR installed inside Windows, wiped the C drive (and all the partitions) and restored the backup, but all that effort didn't matter. PC still won't boot Windows. I also tried restoring the 100MB EFI Partition first, followed by the operating system and Recovery partitions, still no help. The only odd thing I see is inside the WinPE SRD, About - Symantec System Recovery Disk shows versions that seem old even though it was just extracted from the latest v11.0.2.49853 download zip file (although the SRD .iso file date of 12/15/13 is older than the SSR SP2 11.0.2 update that supposedly fixed UEFI problems). Do you see anything usual or something that I'm doing wrong? Please help because obviously I am unhealthily obsessed with this problem! ;-) Thanks! Hi, I have recently installed and activated SSR 2013 as an upgrade from Ghost 15 due to the fact that I have a requirement to create a cold USB backup/restore process for UEFI-based computers which SSR 2013 purportedly supports. I have been trialling with 2 x Tablets: 1. Fujitsu Q550 - 64-Bit Windows 8 Pro 2. HP Elitepad 900 G1 - 32-Bit Windows 8 Pro Following the rather straight-forward USB SRD creation process for SSR 2013 I have created USB SRDs using both the 64-bit and the 32-bit recovery ISO files for the Fuji and HP respectively. However, neither tablet is Booting into the SSR environment when the relevant USB flash is inserted and the "Boot from EFI USB Device" option is selected in the tablet's Advanced Startup options. The "System doesn't have any USB option..." message is displayed in both cases following the restart. I have also tried connecting the 32-bit SRD to the 64-bit platform and vice versa, no joy. Also, I have applied latest firmware and OS updates to both tablets and and am reasonably confident, especially given the fact that both Tablets are presenting the same 'failure mode', that I am not dealing with a failure to correctly invoke / configure / patch each Tablets' boot process in some manner that is causing the Tablets to bypass its USB boot instruction. Some notes on the USB Flash drives: a) I have been working with 3 x discrete physical flash drives to date, same result with all three, I don't believe there is any incompatibility or problems with the USB flash hardware. b) These USB SRDs succeed in booting to the recovery environment when connected to legacy BIOS devices. c) All USB flash drives are formatted FAT32 as required. I created a Symantec support ticket last week but no useful advice has been forthcoming from that direction to date and just thought I would bounce this off to the community in case anybody is experiencing similar issues (or indeed has had some success) with SSR 2013's UEFI USB SRD creation and may perhaps be in a position to offer some insight into my current problem; perhaps the USB keys require some further prep or partioning that the SSR 2013 process is failing to undertake? Hi! I have installed SSR 2013 (R1) on about 10 current Dell Optiplex PCs with Win 8.1 Pro (Update 1). I have setup two simple daily backups: One full backup to a server on my network and one incremental to a PC's local HDD. On every PC now and then the incremental backups fail with the strange error: EBAB03F8: 'CHECK failed, Computer::CreateImageFile: Computer.cpp(1517): guid != Guid() && sequence != 0xffffffff && sequence > 0.'. (UMI:V-281-3215-6071) This means that the incremental backups cannot be created successfully for some unknown reason and a new base has to be recreated next time the backup runs. This is really annoying and I had reported this error in the past without receiving any solution here in the forums. Now I hoped that SSR 2013 R2 would finally solve the problem but it did not. I upgraded one PC to SSR 2013 R2 (yes you really have to pay for this "updgrade") and the same error occurs again. The main error reference I found is this: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH217964 I wonder how long Symantec needs to get this hotfix tested and merged into the release. I am getting this error on each of my PCs and I am seriously considering to switch to a different backup product if the issue is not going to be solved immediately because it makes the program useless. Other knowledge base articles state that the error might be caused by another backup program installed. There is no such program installed. Anti-virus used is from Symantec (Norton Internet Security) so this should have been tested at least to work ok... Symantec software development employees for "Symantec System Recovery 2013 Desktop Edition": I have SSR 2013 Desktop Edition version 11.0.1.47622 right now. I am upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. I much prefer to have system image backup/restore software (like SSR 2013 Desktop Edition) as an insurance policy at all times. Unlike with Windows 8, I understand that SSR 2013 Desktop Edition will NOT work with Windows 8.1. When you try to restore a partition using the System Recovery DVD disc it fails. I wasn't too pleased to hear about this at all. I have read on the internet that Windows 8.1 was not reallya major OS update. Is Symantec going to provide a new version of SSR 2013 Desktop Edition (like 11.0.2.XXXXX) in the next week or so that fully supports Windows 8.1 partition backups/restores? That would be awesome if Symantec could do this. In order to backup/restore Windows 8.1 partitions, is Symantec going to make all the SSR 2013 Desktop Edition customers wait several months and have to pay for a new version like SSR 2014 Desktop Edition? I need to know what is being done by the software developers. If I have to wait several months then I guess I'll have to shop around for new system image backup/restore software like Acronis True Image. I've been using Symantec system image software for years so I'd prefer to not have to start using another company's product.4.3KViews3likes14CommentsSSR2013 - ERROR: Installation failed with error -532462766.
Hey everybody, For some reason the Symantec website does not let me create a new support case (times out), therefor I'm hoping this forum might be of any help. I'm trying to install SSR2013 R2 for one of my clients (W8.1 Pro 64bit). When I run browser.exe or the SSRx64 setup.exe the installation starts with the message 'Loading the install. Please wait... ‘. After a few seconds this message disappears and the setup ends without reporting a clear error. However I checked the SSRINST.html file within the C:\ProgramData\Symantec\SYMANTEC SYSTEM RECOVERY\LOGS folder. It reports the following error: Symantec System Recovery (TM) 2013 R2 Installation Log 02-09-2015,09:39:31 : EnumProcesses Counts: 79 02-09-2015,09:39:31 : OS is Windows 8 or Windows 2012. 02-09-2015,09:39:31 : The OS product type is Workstation. 02-09-2015,09:39:33 : Executing managed _Setup: 02-09-2015,09:39:33 : C:\Users\Voip\Downloads\SSR\Sym_System_Recovery_2013R2_11.1.0.53728_Multilingual_Product\SSR\SSRx64\Install\_Setup.exe 02-09-2015,09:39:35 : ERROR: Installation failed with error -532462766.
