Backup Exec verify taking too long

We have implemented Backup Exec 2010 R3, and one job which backing up one of our major SQL databases taking too long. Upon investigation, we discovered that backup of that service takes about 2 hours, but verify is taking about 12 hours.

We backing up to disk folder... Backup disk is provided from EMC storage... We don't have tape library.

Does anybody have clue why verification taking that long?

I would advise that you ensure you are fully patched and up to date with the latest Service Pack and Hotfixes by running live update. One option you might want to try is to run the verify job outside of the regular backup by using the pre-configured template.

Refer to the Admin Guide, pg. 74, 382 & 383 at the following link: http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC2211

You can also refer to the following link for details on how the verify process works: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH18698

“If Verify after backup completes is not selected, a successful backup only confirms that data was written to the tape or disk; it does not verify that the tape/disk can be read or restored from the media”

Hello Laurie,

We had SP2 on BAckup Exec 2010 R3 server.

We upgraded  to SP4 over LiveUpdate, and after that we upgraded agents aswell..

Unfortunatelly, that didn't help reducing verify job, and also we have a problem that backup of Sharepoint farm failed.

Upon troubleshooting, we discovered that instalation of SP4 somehow remove licence for Agent for Sharepoint ???

Strange.

Ok, we entered license again and we was able to backup sharepoint.

But, regarding verify job it isn't better. I forgot to mantion that we don't use  dedupplication folder, only backup-to-disk folder.
