Hello,

I will summary step by step for  upgrade backup exec 12.5 to 2010. If somebody have tried it, please advise me about this step will work or not.

My Backup exec 12.5 is rev 2213 and service pack 3.

1. Run Liveupdate to lasted patch.

2. download Backup_Exec_2010_13.0.4164_MultiPlatforms_Multilingual_DVD.iso and write it to DVD for install. (I think this is Backup exec 2010 R2, Is it correct?)

3. upgrade by following this link.

Hello there,

Following is the link for the technote which has the snapshot of the installation/upgrade to Backup Exec 2010.

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH124432

As you have already downloaded the software which is Backup Exec 2010 R2 , you will have to follow from the step " [ II ] Install Backup Exec 2010" of that technote.

Also please note as this technote is for installation you may not have some windows during upgrade. Some windows like selecting the SQL instance as it will already select the instance which is currently used by Backup Exec installation running on that server.

Thanks,

-Sush...

It is not necessary to upsdate your BE 12.5 before upgrading to BE 2010.  Ignore the warning in the environment check to update before upgrading.

The DVD that you have is for BE 2010 R2.

Before you upgrade,

1) Stop all the BE services

2) Stop the instance of the BE database

3) make a copy of the Data and Catalog directories under the BE installation directory.

The last step is a precaution in case the upgrade goes bad.

Other than the above, just run the installtion DVD.

After your upgrade make sure that you push out the remote agents to all your remote servers.  You will have to re-boot all your servers after the upgrade.

Hello

After upgrading to BE2010 you will have to upgrade the remote agents too.

Also make sure you have all the license keys of BE2010.
