I have a job backing up a single virtual machine via it's vCenter server that fails with final error 0xe00095b3 - Unable to create the virtual disk.
The VM is Server 2012 R2, the Backup Exec CAS and Media servers are 2012 R2 and Backup Exex 15 with latest patches. Job log is posted below, any idea what is causing this?

1st link: Only one of the cases applies and I already performed the recommended solution of rebooting the media server.
2nd link: Applies to backup exec 2014, I have 15

BTW, when I uncheck GRT, the backup completes successfully.

This is quite a generic error. Debug logs from the VM & the BE media server will help narrow down the failure cause. Probably will be easier to log a formal support case. Thanks.

Thanks VJware, do you have a KB on how to collect debug logs from the VM and media server? Let me know and I will post them here.

Use this KB - https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH63926
Needs to be done on both the BE media server and the VM prior to starting the backup job. And pls ensure no other job is running while the debug is enabled. Thanks.

I figured it out. In order to perform a backup, via the VMware backup API, with GRT selected, you still have to install the backup exec agent on the VM. Many other backup solutions are capable of this without installing and agent. Furthermore, I have no idea why such a simple and common misconfiguration results in such a vague error message.

File & Folder GRT does not require the Remote Agent for backup, however Application GRT does.
