BE 2010 DLO Client and Win 7 64 bit

We are migrating from Windows XP to Win 7 64 bit Enterprise.  We use BE 2010.

I have installed BE DLO Client 2010 onto some Win 7 clients.  We have noticed that when the machine is shut down the DLO client hangs and we get an error "waiting for dloclientu.exe" and have to force shutdown.  We did not get this problem with XP.  Any ideas?

Edit the Profile settings and then the Schedule settings.

Under "Logout/Restart/Shutdown options", check if its set to "Do Nothing". If other options are set, then change it to "Do Nothing" and observe.

The option is already set to Do Nothing

Another possibility is if the DLO Desktop Agent is running any backups, or is the UI open or is minimized to the system tray.

In Win 7 when user choses to log-off, as the DLO application is still open, it gives the option of either force log off or cancel. (This behavior is same for most applications which are open at that point of time) When you choose to cancel, exit the Desktop Agent and then re log-off, it should log-off gracefully. The reason you did not experience this in XP, it that XP handles this in a different manner than later OSes such as Vista, 7

Would DLO version 7.5 provide more stability with win 7 64 bit as we have also noticed the current version we use Version 3.1 rev 3.43.17a does not work well with Office 2010 32 bit?

There are loads of changes in SDLO 7.5 & it would definitely be worthwhile to make the upgrade.

For egs, VSS backup method for .pst files helps overcome most issues which were encountered when using the older MAPI method.

We are currently running BE 2010 r2.  Would this need to be upgraded or can the DLO client run standalone and we leave the BE server alone?

Couple of ways.. Depends if you want to retain the existing DLO DB or not.

If yes, i.e. you would like to retain existing settings, then you'll have to upgrade from BE 2010 R2 to BE 2010 R3 and then do an inplace upgrade to SDLO 7.5

If not, i.e. you would like to start with new settings, uninstall DLO from BE and install SDLO 7.5 as a normal install.
