Hi Guys,

I'd like to know what's your best practice strategy for managing the EV Server ?

in terms of hard disk for example i have like the following:

EVServerProd01 C: - disk size - SYS (29.99 GB), used space (21.31 GB), free space (8.68 GB), percentage free space = 28.94 %
EVServerProd01 I: - disk size - Index (250 GB), used space (181.67 GB), free space (68.33 GB), percentage free space = 27.33 %
EVServerProd01 M: - disk size - Msg_Queue (10 GB), used space (0.17 GB), free space (9.83 GB), percentage free space = 98.38 %
EVServerProd01 R: - disk size - Vault1_Pt7 (512 GB), used space (0.0799999999999841 GB), free space (511.92 GB), percentage free space = 99.98 %
EVServerProd01 S: - disk size - Pst Files (49.99 GB), used space (32.28 GB), free space (17.71 GB), percentage free space = 35.42 %
EVServerProd01 T: - disk size - Vault1_Pt6 (512 GB), used space (0.0799999999999841 GB), free space (511.92 GB), percentage free space = 99.98 %
EVServerProd01 U: - disk size - Vault1_Pt5 (512 GB), used space (418.96 GB), free space (93.04 GB), percentage free space = 18.17 %
EVServerProd01 V: - disk size - Vault1_Pt1 (1023.99 GB), used space (984.83 GB), free space (39.16 GB), percentage free space = 3.82 %
EVServerProd01 W: - disk size - Vault1_Pt2 (512 GB), used space (493.02 GB), free space (18.98 GB), percentage free space = 3.71 %
EVServerProd01 X: - disk size - Vault1_Pt3 (512 GB), used space (471.68 GB), free space (40.32 GB), percentage free space = 7.88 %
EVServerProd01 Y: - disk size - Vault1_Pt4 (512 GB), used space (474.85 GB), free space (37.15 GB), percentage free space = 7.26 %

is it advisable to run the Disk defragmenter scheduled in a batch script for all of those disks once in a month ? but I wonder what would happen if the current EV archive process is running at the same time with the defragment ?

You can run a defrag if you want, but it is highly advisable to do this while EV is stopped.

I personally have never run a defrag on EV-index or storage disks.

thanks for the reply Gertjan,

I also wondering too, yes the confusing bit is that the Defrag could take forever and cannot guarantee that it should stop / finished before the EV archive started.

@Andrew, I am using EMC SAN for my EV Virtual Machine.

It might be an idea to list all the different things that you'd like to cover, because an EV environment is not just the EV server.. it's the storage, which is probably remote, the directory/vault store/fingerprint databases... it's the end-user workstations .. it's the Outlook Web Access components (if deployed).. it's the File Server agents (if deployed) .. and so on.
