Is there any way of knowing what can cause a shortcut in EV to be larger than the original email?

The biggest thing usually is the recipient list.

How much larger?
EV does add some additional MAPI properties on the item.

The more stuff you put in the shortcut the larger it will be.

E.g. if you use customized shortcuts there will be some html content in the shortcut, e.g. the banner, shortcuttext, number of characters from the original message body etc.

Rob,

Thanks for responding,

In particular are there anythings to look out for other than the recipient list.

And is there anything we can do to avoid this happening.

Quick question, what type of shortcuts are you creating and what was the original content of the mail you looked at?

E.g. was it just a simple test mail?

Also in which scenario do you see this as an issue?

Because unless you only have these types of messages in the mailbox then this isn't really an issue.

Since the savings from removing mails with e.g. attachments etc. are so much bigger compared to e.g. the size difference between a "test mail" and the shortcut of that "test mail"

If you have mailboxes with only small mails then you could e.g. skip those mailboxes from being archived or you don't create shortcuts for the mails being archived from those mailboxes.

To keep it in a sensible size make sure to not include more than 30000 characters from the original text in your custom shortcut (plus performance issues, TECH76366).
