i have enteprirse vault 8 server running with email archiving and the netbackup agent backup via network is very slow . 50 Gb about 8 hours.

It is possible to use netbackup vstorage to backup the entire VM machine ( EV store , Indexing and SQL DB )?

It is supported by Symantec?

If you backup the whole VM then the archive bit on the actual saveset files on the VMWare image will not be changed. This means that the standard method for checking that a backup has occurred will not work unless you either change to the trigger file mechanism and script the creation of the expected file once the VM has restarted post-backup or alternatively use a script that resets the archive bit on all the saveset files (attrib -a *.* /s) post restart

Collections would be the preferred route but the above should work too, though restoring from backup could get interesting if you aren't taking a snap shot of the databases at the same time...

One of the most common reasons the backup is slow, will be because there are a lot of small files.
What you can do is enable the Enterprise Vault Collector to create CAB files of your archived data. These CAB files will contain the small files, but backups will be much faster.

just wanted to confirm that what you're saying is all your storage for the vault stores, indexes, and SQL db are attached to the vm guest and not on a CIFS share, iSCSI or something like that.
