Employee

Photo-DebWilmotjpg.jpgDebbie Wilmot has been a part of the Veritas team for over 23 years! She began her career with the Company in May 2000, starting as a member of the NetBackup Technical Support team. After five years, Debbie transitioned to a Backline Technical Support Engineer role for 15 years before moving on to a Program Management role for the Customer/User Experience team in January 2020. Currently, she is a Product Manager for the NetBackup Appliances.

Debbie's primary responsibility as a Product Manager is to plan and execute the releases for the NetBackup Appliances (NBA). Her team works to identify customer needs and business objectives for product features. Additionally, Debbie is responsible for implementing Shared Licensing (SLIC) in the appliances, monitoring upcoming work required for NBU epics, and addressing supportability issues as needed. Debbie collaborates with many colleagues to make the right decisions regarding product direction that serves the customer and the Company best.

Regarding hiring, Debbie looks for candidates with two key characteristics: creativity and a love for learning. She shares that in the IT field, it's important to view things from multiple perspectives and have an open mind to innovative ideas. The ability to think creatively and brainstorm to find the best solution to a problem is crucial for driving innovation. A love for learning is also essential, as it helps to keep up with modern technologies and stay current in the field.

A fun fact about Debbie is that she recently completed a second bachelor's degree in Project Management from Minnesota State University during the pandemic when she had more free time due to not having to commute. Debbie also has two grown children and two grandchildren who keep her busy.

Regarding her military experience, Debbie enlisted in the Air Force in September 1987. Her time in the military allowed her to travel and live in places she wouldn't have been able to see and experience otherwise. She spent a year in South Korea and enjoyed learning about the culture and country, and much about herself and the value of integrity and honesty.

The skills Debbie learned in the military that are still applicable today include computer skills and leadership. The military was her introduction to computers, and it's interesting to see how much things have changed since then. She concludes by saying “In addition to the learning and challenges that the job provides, my favorite aspect about Veritas is the people. Veritas has so many dedicated and knowledgeable people who, in my experience, are always willing to help or exchange ideas to address and resolve issues.”
