At the end of February, Veritas announced the arrival of NetBackup 10, which brings many advanced features to the product and provides more support for moving backups to the cloud. Along with that, Veritas has added several advanced features to NetBackup SaaS Protection, our solution for backup and recovery of software-as-a-service (SaaS) application data.
With the wider acceptance and adoption of SaaS solutions, enterprises are faced with the shared responsibility model. This model, adopted by the majority of SaaS application platforms, makes it clear what the provider is responsible for, as well as what responsibilities belong to the customer.
The SaaS vendors are responsible for the uptime, updates, maintenance, and quality of the applications they offer. Related to this, SaaS vendors are also responsible for the deployment and maintenance of the infrastructure on which their software runs.
The customer is left being solely responsible for their own data. This includes responsibility for user authentication – to ensure that only authorized users can access the data, data security – to protect the data from malware, ransomware, and prying eyes, and data protection – to protect the data from being lost by employing a backup and recovery solution. The SaaS vendors are explicitly not taking any responsibility for your data and will be of very little help in the event of data loss, regardless of the cause.
That’s where Veritas NetBackup SaaS Protection comes in. It offers customers a backup and recovery solution for SaaS application data that’s full of advanced features for SaaS data protection. The newest of those features are described below.
Integration with the NetBackup WebUI Console
With the updates to NetBackup SaaS Protection, customers using NetBackup 10 can use the NetBackup management console to monitor the status of all NetBackup SaaS Protection backup and restore jobs, view the details of the data connectors, view the details of the storage, and monitor their entire organization’s data protection from a single unified console.
Replication of Backup Data
Some organizations’ compliance requirements include keeping a copy of all data on-site. Others just feel better protected with an air-gapped, immutable copy of the backup for use in the event disaster recovery is needed. Others don’t like knowing that all of their data is stored on a single cloud platform.
With this update, NetBackup SaaS Protection adds the ability to replicate all of its data to the customer’s choice of an on-premises Veritas NetBackup Access Appliance or an S3 storage bucket on AWS. Regardless of which option the customer chooses, they receive the benefit of a completely separate copy of their SaaS backup data on immutable storage.
Data Protection for Google Workspace
Prior to this update, NetBackup SaaS Protection has provided backup and recovery for data stored in Google Drive. Veritas has expanded that to offer data protection for the entire Google Workspace suite.
This includes backup and recovery support for Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, and App Scripts. Our Gmail backup and recovery covers inboxes, messages, message labels, and any message attachments.
Security Enhancements
With this update, Veritas adds even more data security features to NetBackup SaaS Protection. These include:
