GRT - NFS

screenburn
Level 4
Hi,
I have recently upgraded my NetBackup to 6.5.4. Now I am interested to start the GRT backup for exchange server. I have read the document but having the following confusion,
  • NFS is mandatory for the GRT backup. When someone say NFS then its mean the file system on UNIX. Kindly guide me that can I use the local NTFS partition to take the GRT backup or Exchange Server. I have configured the NFS on the NetBackup Media server (windows 2003 R2).
  • For mounting a drive do I require the NFS server.
Regards,
Maged.

1.  You can use NTFS partition, it's not a problem. NFS is a cross-platform protocol.
2. Take a look into articles below. You will need NFS Server/Client.

Recently I wrote an article regarding the GRT technology setup with corresponding links to Symantec technotes.

Have a look it here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/netbackup-granular-recovery-technology-tips-and-caveats

List of technotes:

How to configure NetBackup for Mailbox backups of an Exchange 2000/2003 server http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/245184.htm

Small comment:

1: You don't need to manually mount any NFS partition, Netbackup handles it for you (But you need to install NFS server and NFS client as instructed in the manual)
2: While NFS is active, you don't see any volumes mounted in Windows Explorer (Like CIFS shares).
