Netbackup upgrade

Good day all

I was wondering if you are able to help, we have a Netbackup server running version6.0, and I want to upgrade it to version 6.5.3. However Symantec has provided me with Netbackup Version 7.0 licensing.

If I install v6.5.3, will I be able to use the v7.0 licensing to validate the software without any problems?

I think the license will allow you to use it for 7.x and older clients.

You should also be able to upgrade with the 6.0 license as is.
I have seen customers upgrading with their old 5.1 license keys.

You will need new license keys if you want to use 6.5 features. Try the version 7 license keys and see what happens. If it does not accept the 7.0 license keys, you will need to contact Customer Care to obtain 6.5 license keys.

If I may ask - why 6.5.3? There were SO many new features and bug fixes with subsequent patch versions. 6.5.6 is the latest version.

The project managers were reluctant to go with version 7.0 as they said its still buggy

yes it works.
you can still use nbu 6.5.3 using the license upgrade for nbu 7.
A number of our customers have upgraded to 6.5.3 using nbu 7 licenses

I have one more query please... I'm running Netbackup 6.0MP5. Would I need to remove the patch before running the Netbackup 6.5 installation? or may I just execute it?

No need to uninstall patches.

You never mentioned the O/S? Ensure all pre-req's are in place - see NBU Install Guide:
