I am using Veritas NetBackup 4.5 and using RMAN script to backup database for Oracle 9.2.0.6.0.

My backup failed and here what's written in the log:

Can anyone help me out on how to solve this?

there is a similar case in this forum
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/ora-19511-error-received-media-manager-layer-error-te...

But where and how to check whether the Oracle DB was stuck in the Hot backup Mode. if the DB is stuck in Hot backup mode, why my daily operation which using this DB is running smooth?

Thanks

That sounds like a timeout. See what the CLIENT_CONNECT and CLIENT_READ timeouts are on the media server and add about 15 minutes.

Please share dbclient log on client.
You also need to check Agent Compatibility Guide. 4.5 GA did not support Oracle 9.2.
Why on earth are you running such an old, unsupported version of NBU? - End of Support Life: July 1, 2006

sorry, the Oracle should be Oracle 8.1.7. they are plan to upgrade by end of this year. the backup running well until last weekend. i try to copy the dbclient log, but the inside the folder is empty. the permission for the folder is 777 (Hp-UX 11.11).

Thanks

i had go through this technote, but the problem still the same, and the backup is not failed immediately with error 6. out of 10 child process, only 1 or 2 is failed with error 6.
