We have previous with success opened support cases with EMC regarding plug-in errors.
07-03-2015 03:51 AM
The error message with the root cause shows:
03/07/2015 10:21:52 - Critical bptm(pid=81420) image write failed: error 2060046: plugin error
03/07/2015 10:21:52 - Critical bptm(pid=81420) sts_get_image_prop failed: error 2060046: plugin error
Upgade to 7.6.0.4 and try again., If that still fails open a support call.
Check the NBU 7,6 HCL for the DD device.

I am wondering abou this one: Unsupported storage server type (DataDomain) - disabling Client Direct
Is this VMware backup ?

HI Jamie,
I am getting this error for 2 to 3 servers other backups are working fine.
Hi Nicolai,
this is MS-Windows policy.
Following behavior i have observed:-
Mostly it fails while backing up the shadow Copy Components:\
Manual backup gets partially successful
we tried rebooting the server but still the same error.

Check is there any failed disk on DD?
Try to run the backup with media server side deduplication if it is running with client side deduplication. If it resolve the issue, there may a chance that there is connectivity broken due to some necessary ports are not opened for client side deduplication or necessary entries not exist in host file.

I agree with Nicolai - plugin errors should be logged with EMC.

I am still working on this. due to some issue we have move this backup on tape but I will update the status of this error as soon as I can.

Had a similar issue with my two data domains. my issue was resolved by limiting the maximum I/O streams on the Disk Pools for the data domains. the version of DD i use only recommends 85 I/O Streams. I run at 70 and the 84 codes went away.

+1 - had same issue, with same resolution
Was told that some backups actually use 2 or more DD IO streams, not sure how true that is

I've had to do the same thing. I have a DD990 so I can run up to 150 at a time with no issues. Also make sure your disk pools and storage are not in a DOWN state.
