In a recent Data Risk Management report, 65% of surveyed executives and IT practitioners expressed that they have experienced a successful ransomware attack over the past two years (The State of the Market—Cyber to Compliance). Such attacks can lead to considerable disruption in business operations and even data loss, unexpected downtime, and reputational damage. The prevalence of attacks and the potential implications of successful attacks underscore the importance of establishing a capable cyber resiliency strategy.

The latest release of NetBackup 10.3 expands upon the existing foundations of NetBackup’s secure by default architecture, improving intelligent and automated threat detection support and integrating resiliency in recovery operations to minimize attack surface and provide the most powerful and secure architecture to date.

In delivering these new capabilities, Veritas continues to radically simplify data protection for NetBackup and Alta Data Protection customers with the benefit of new resiliency features, advanced automation, and expanded workload support – all of which strengthen protection while reducing cost and resource demands.

Learn more about what’s new in NetBackup 10.3:

Cyber Resilient

  • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Everywhere - Across all product interfaces – GUI, CLI, SSH – further reducing attack surfaces
  • Multi-Person Authorization for Critical Operations - Prevents malicious operations (data deletions, etc.) from being performed if a user’s workstation is compromised – a designated approver must confirm before the operation can proceed
  • Anomaly Detection Enhancements - New ability to identify system-level or user behavior anomalies using ML and audit trails. Along with image-level entropy to aid the selection of recovery points using Alta View.
  • Inline Malware Scanning During Recovery - Lower the risk from 0-day threats with integrated malware scanning during a restore, along with new support for cloud VMs and Universal Shares.

Cloud Optimized

  • Expanded PaaS support with 5 new workloads:
    • GCP Cloud SQL Server
    • Azure CosmosDB – Mongo
    • Azure CosmosDB – SQL API
    • AWS RDS – Oracle
    • Azure Data Lake
  • Incremental Backup Support for Azure SQL and Azure SQL MI - Providing protection for Azure SQL workloads with minimal overhead, compute, and storage requirements
  • Expanded S3 Immutability Support - Immutable object lock support available for IBM Cloud Object Storage, Data Core Cloud Cluster Storage and NetApp Storage Grid
  • Parallel Stream Recovery for Kubernetes - New K8s snapshot backup support for block-based and file-based storage in the same namespace, allowing for parallel stream recovery.
  • FIPS Compliance for Kubernetes Workloads (on RHEL Based VMs) -Provides a higher level of security for Kubernetes workload protection meeting FIPS requirements for any RHEL-based VMs.

Automated Operations

  • Oracle Self-Service Recovery - Users can now recover an entire Oracle system completely within the NetBackup user interface – either through automated recovery via API, or a delegated recovery via RBAC.
  • Streamlined Linux Single File Recovery - We now provide the ability to perform a single file recovery on Linux without the requirement for ‘root’ privileges on the system.
  • High-Performance Hadoop Backup - Adding to the high-performance backups already provided for Cassandra and MongoDB, we’ve now added multi-stream backup support for Hadoop.
  • DNAS Performance Improvements - Major speed improvements in throughput and optimization improvement for discovery and I/O
