Isn't the reason for not doing this related to catalogs and backup sets not dissapearing though? What would happen to the catalogs and backup set window after these are removed?

If you select a schedule instead for the task under the duplicate to tape job, you can choose when to run the duplicate to tape and make sure (Based on previous runs) that the weekly full completes before your scheduled duplicate.
