Maine Medical Center

Maine Medical Center is expanding its services to include virtualizing servers and protecting data at remote sites throughout the state. This brought new challenges in disaster recovery and data protection. The IT team turned to Symantec. Results include:

  • Shortening the recovery time objective (RTO) from several weeks to two hours.
  • Reducing backup time by up to 10-fold.
  • Lowering the storage footprint 90 percent.
  • Avoiding $30,000 in additional hardware costs.

Groupe Mutuel

Challenged by a significant increase in its volume of data and a pressing need to archive emails and files, Groupe Mutuel chose Symantec Enterprise Vault. By freeing up vast amounts of storage space, Enterprise Vault allowed the company to simplify its data management system. The IT team in charge of this migration was very pleased with the results achieved, and the software was deployed without any issues. Read more.

STW Group, Australiasia’s largest marketing and communications group, had an aging IT infrastructure. Most of its 75 divisions ran their own systems, and data protection processes could be unreliable. The company engaged Symantec Specialist Partner Nexus IT and Communications Solutions to help design and implement a new virtual infrastructure, complete with data protection and email archiving solutions from Symantec. Its customers may not be large, but SYGNET provides them with enterprise-class services based on Symantec Endpoint Protection, Symantec Backup Exec, and Backup Exec System Recovery. Read more.

Symantec Corporation (Green Data Center)

Symantec sought to improve efficiency in its energy use to help reduce utility costs and overall carbon dioxide emissions as part of its corporate commitment to environmental responsibility. The company used several of its own technologies to optimize its data center environment and significantly reduce power consumption there. Symantec also deployed a custom power management profile on company PCs to eliminate energy waste from unused devices.

As a result of its ongoing Green IT efforts, Symantec is achieving substantial business benefit. The Alchemy Solutions Group conducted a Total Operational and Economic Impact analysis and quantified realized and projected business value of almost $12 million between July 2007 and December 2011 in hardware, maintenance, utility cost, and employee productivity savings. Symantec conservatively estimates a cumulative carbon footprint savings of 15.5 million kilograms of CO2 from 2007 through 2010. Read more.

TPL Trakker Limited

Thousands of vehicle operators in Pakistan, the Middle East, and South Asia rely on TPL Trakker vehicle tracking and fleet management services to keep their cars and trucks on the road. NetBackup enabled TPL Trakker to reduce the amount of data stored by approximately 50 percent using deduplication. NetBackup has also cut the backup window by 45 percent and led to a 100 percent backup and recovery success rate. Read more.
