Veritas sponsors She Started It academic program: empowering young girls to be entrepreneurs
In 2018, Veritas is sponsoring the adoption of She Started It curricula in local classrooms – a program developed to empower young women in grades 6 through 9 to seek entrepreneurial opportunities.
The leading goal of the organization is to create a “new generation of fearless women entrepreneurs who receive equitable mentorship, equitable funding and equitable opportunities for education and career development.”
A meaningful charge, and one Veritas is proud to support.
She Started It courses will be hands-on and project-based, with a focus on teaching entrepreneurial skills. Its intended outcomes include:
- Raise awareness about the gender gap in entrepreneurship.
- Boost visibility about career options in entrepreneurship.
- Increase demand for entrepreneurship education among educators.
- Connect educators to organizations advocating for entrepreneurship.
She Started It curricula was inspired by the comparably named award-winning documentary highlighting women tech entrepreneurs. Directors Nora Poggi and Insiyah Saeed followed the lives of five young women on their entrepreneurial journeys, inviting viewers to understand the experiences of each.
Since its premiere in 2016, the film has had 400 screening events in 25 countries, including screenings at Veritas and other companies, conferences, and schools ranging from elementary to post-graduate. The goal of its creators is to reach 1 million viewers in 2018 in hope of increasing female tech entrepreneurship through shared awareness and dialogue.
At Veritas, we want to be a part of that conversation, promoting the She Started It curriculum in local schools, as well as scheduling additional showings of the documentary among our Future Women In Leadership and Women at Veritas Empowered groups.
