This is a question for partners who have already achieved one or more specializations. What do you recommend to those partners who aren't yet specialized? In your experience, what's the best way to start? Which tools did you find helpful (or not)?

For Specialization the most important thing is the training, if you attend the training success is for sure.
Work close with the Symantec representative office in your country. Develop shirt and long term plans. Then get specialized according to these plans. No specialization without planning! When development plan is established then its time to train specialists.
As for training - build your own lab, go through online courses on PartnerNet.
Next stage - attend in-class courses.
Specialization is valid as long as accreditation remains valid.
I recommend SVL also..
But unfortunately very less number of images available.
I think for BE &NBU only 2 each.
