0xE0008516 Snapshot technology Error", Exchange 2013

Hello.

After a year the customer's Exchange 2013 server cannot be backed up with GRT option because the application backup ends with an error.

V-79-57344-34070 - Snapshot Technology: Initialization failure on: "Microsoft Information Store". Snapshot technology used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). Snapshot technology error (0xE0008516): The database specified for the snapshot was not backed up because the database was not mounted. Check the Windows Event Viewer for details. The database is definitely mounted.

I'm not sure if the Exchange application or OS were not updated before the error occurence.

I went through many articles how to solve the issue but nothing helped.

Configuration:

BE 14.2.1180.3142 FP-5

MS Exchange 2013

  • The customer arranged restart of the Exchange server today and the problem is over. Probably something with VSS, but not sure :).

  • If you're running Advanced Open File Option, turn it off and then try again.

      The AOFO is not used.

      Thanks for the idea.
