Is it possible to backup VM HyperV via SAN?

Hi,

how to enable backup VM HyperV Cluster via SAN to tape? Backup server is physical, tape hardware is directly attached to backup server using fibre.

Thanks.

  • I was looking for this solution for a long time ago. Unfortunately, BE doesn't support it.

  • Unfortunately this is a limitation of the environment and not specifically something to do with Backup Exec - Hyper-V hosts themselves do not provide an Off-Host/San Transport capability - VMware hosts do have this capability which is why we can backup over SAN with VMware.

As such the only ways to achieve a backup that does not use the production LAN backups with Hyper-V are:

    1) Make the Hyper-V host into a Backup Exec server and directly attach the backup devices to it.

    2) Use a secondary / backup LAN network with multiple NICs
