Installing for Windows Server 2008 R2 - OS not recognized
At my company we use Storage Foundation extensively for managing disks in SQL Server cluster. We are in the process of evaluating Windows Server 2008 R2 on an HP Proliant DL380 G6 server. As a volume license customer with Microsoft with Software Assurance, we have access to the full GA version of Windows Server 2008 R2, and not a beta or release candidate.
However, when I try to install SFW 5.1 on Win2K8 R2, I fail with the following errors at the Validation screen:
Veritas Storage Foundation 5.1 for Windows (Client Components)
OS error
Operating system not supported.
Operating system requirements:
Windows XP Professional
Windows 2003 Server
Windows Vista
Windows Server 2008
Operating system installed:
Unknown Operating System, with Service Pack 0
Veritas Storage Foundation 5.1 for Windows (Server Components)
OS error
Operating system not supported.
Operating system requirements:
Windows Server 2008, with Service Pack 0
Windows Server 2008 Server Core Edition , with Service Pack 0
Windows 2003 Server, with Service Pack 1
Operating system installed:
Unknown Operating System, with Service Pack 0
Clearly the problem is that 5.1 isn't recent enough to detect 2008 R2. Is there a hotfix or workaround or beta release that I could use to make this installation succeed? We would like to perform our load tests by the end of the week if at all possible. Please let me know if there are any options.
Thanks,
-Steve

HI Marianne, Support for Windows 2008 SP2/R2 will be included with 5.1 SP1 update which is planned to be released near the end of the month. (if all goes to plan)
