ContributionsMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: BESR 8.x issues with OS/pagefile/VSS... I upgraded from 8.02 to 8.5 on 10/08. The upgrade went well and I don't recall if I had to reboot. I don't believe it prompted me to. I run a before and afterscript which apparently was returning a errorlevel of 2 which caused the new version to fail on that. This is the same script I was using with 8.02 that worked fine. It appears that maybe this was a bug and is now fixed. I just modified my script to do a "set errorlevel=0" for now to get around that. This was the error message for that: Date: 10/8/2008 21:20:12 PM Notification Type: Error Priority: High Description: Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Drive Backup of OS (C:\), Data (D:\), Exchange (E:\), Backup & Apps (F:\). Error E0BB009C: External command "C:\Admin\Scripts\v2iBackup_after_data_capture.cmd" returned an error. Error EBAB03F1: The system cannot find the file specified. Details: 0xE0BB009C Out of 11 backups I have had only one fail with a different message than I have seen before: Date: 10/16/2008 21:18:09 PM Notification Type: Error Priority: High Description: Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Drive Backup of OS (C:\), Data (D:\), Exchange (E:\), Backup & Apps (F:\). Error EBAB03E9: Internal Application Error: Memory Access Violation c0000005: Application tried to read memory at 05d6f000. Details: 0xEBAB03E9 The next scheduled backup on the following day ran just fine. Prior to the upgrade I was starting to fail 2 out of 3 backups. Typically a reboot of the server would make it better for a few days, then it would start to act up again. So for other than the after.cmd issue I haven't noticed anything different/strange about the new version and it definitely seems to be working better for me. I did talk with Technical Support and they said that 8.5 was a pretty major rewrite of the software. Hope that helps. -Mark Message Edited by Mark Rovendro on 10-20-2008 04:54 AM Message Edited by Mark Rovendro on 10-20-2008 04:56 AM Re: BESR 8.x issues with OS/pagefile/VSS... I had the same issue just after upgrading from 7.02 to 8.01. I upgraded on 03/09 and ran a manual recovery right afterward and all looked good. The next scheduled run failed with the following message. Interestingly enough every backup after this has succeeded just fine. Event Type:Error Event Source:Backup Exec System Recovery Event Category:High Priority Event ID:100 Date:3/10/2008 Time:10:01:47 PM User:N/A Computer:SERVER Description: Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Recovery point of E:\, F:\, D:\, C:\. Source: Backup Exec System Recovery The backups seem just fine, however I am now seeing that the "Symantec SymSnap VSS Provider" service is stopping. There are no entries at all in the event log about this service. The backup are still running even though the service isn't running. I will restart it and seems to stay running for some time. Not sure when it stops. This is running on a SBS 2003 R2 SP1 Dell PowerEdge 2950. -Mark Message Edited by Mark Rovendro on 03-14-2008 07:25 PM Message Edited by Mark Rovendro on 03-14-2008 07:26 PMRe: Unable to eject Dell RD1000 cartridge Looks like this has been finally resolved in the 7.02 release: http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/293312.htm Check out the Release Notes. Now it's just a matter of when it will become available. Thanks, -Mark Message Edited by Mark Rovendro on 11-01-2007 05:25 AMRe: Unable to eject Dell RD1000 cartridge I have been running the latest firmware v2021 and the latest Utility v2.02 for several months and it hasn't helped. For the time being I have created a workaround where I backup my system to a network drive, then using a PowerShell script copy the backup to the RD1000 (could have used a standard dos script). It would be nice ifin a future release PowerShell could be added to the list of scripts that are recognized. That way I don't have to have a .cmd call my .ps1 files. -Mark Re: Unable to eject Dell RD1000 cartridge Hi Jim, I have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 using the USB version of the RD1000. As Dan mentioned the system ejects just fine either by the button on the front or right clicking -> eject when the BESR services aren't running. The OS is Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Service Pack 1. I had a earlier version of BESR, 6.5, that worked just fine. It wasn't until I upgraded to 7.0 that I started to have this problem. -Mark Re: Unable to eject Dell RD1000 cartridge I have the same exact situation. I am using the Dell RD1000 with 120GB drives and BESR 7.0. I don't recall having this issue when I was running the 6.5 version. This is (could be) a perfect solution for a single Small Business Server situation to backup and restore. Could someone at Symantec please repond to this. Thanks, -Mark
