Hyper V backup failure EC156
Hi All Master Server : Linux RHEL 6, 7.6.0.2, MSDP Media Server : Linux RHEL 6, 7.6.0.2, MSDP Hyper V Server: Windows 2012 R2, 7.6.0.2 (only client) We have implemented backup of Hyper-V machines from Netbackup. we have 6 node cluster, Backups of some of the VMs completing successfully & backup for some machines are failing. below are the events which I can find in event viewer of the hyperV machine (CLuster Node) at the time of backup failure. I dont see any thing in event viewer of the machine whose backup has failed. Warning related to VSS writer: A VSS writer has rejected an event with error 0x800423f4, The writer experienced a non-transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error is likely to reoccur. . Changes that the writer made to the writer components while handling the event will not be available to the requester. Check the event log for related events from the application hosting the VSS writer. Operation: PrepareForSnapshot Event bpfis logs from cluster node are attached. Kindly suggest.Solved7.8KViews1like5CommentsSnapshot technology error (0xE0008516)

Hi everyone, I need a better understanding on snapshots and writers on a Hyper-V backup scenario (CSV with 4 nodes - single policy). As far as i know. Netbackup is installed on the Hyper-V Hosts (nodes) Logs are created on the Hyper-V hosts. Network traffic is between Master-Media and Hyper-V Host And according to the 7.5 Hyper-V Admin Guide - Phase 3: The VSS Hyper-V writer quiesces the Windows virtual machine and creates the snapshot on the host volume. If the Hyper-V writer cannot quiesce the virtual machine, the virtual machine is placed in the Saved state before creation of the snapshot. But, when you get an snapshot error (156)troubleshootingis on the virtual machine, according to this article: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO44941#v18522639 To be specific, i mean: Enough space on each volume of the virtual machine. NTFS shadow storage on each/same volume of the virtual machine. Those 2issues must be checked on the virtual machine. Last week i made a recomendation - (before being included in our Hyper-V backup) - to check if our newvirtual machines had those configurations correct in order to avoid any CSV issues due the snapshots failing, and when our IT admin asked "why on the virtual machine, if everything happens in the host? makes no sense and nothing should be checked on the virtual machine, just the Hyper-V Hosts" Icouldn´t answer that question. I know for sure the technote is valid, because i´ve troubleshooted156 error many times and always is due to no space on the virtual machine orNTFS shadow storageon differentvolumes. On the other hand, when backup is running, you can only list writers on the Hyper-V hosts, I´m pretty sure this is something conceptual related to the VSS writer, and how snapshots are done. Would be nice if someone could explain me what i´m missing to understand. Thanks a lot! Pamela.Solved5.9KViews2likes4CommentsBE 2014 won't backup VMs on Hyper-V 2012 R2
Hi all. The Backup Server is running Server 2008 R2 Standard with Backup Exec 2014 installed. All updates have been applied from live update. I'm trying to backup VMs on a server running Hyper-V 2012 R2, but I continue to receive a "Final error: 0xa0009679 - A failure occurred querying the Writer status for a Hyper-V virtual machine" error. Running VSS Admin List results in a "Retryable Error" for the Microsoft Hyper-V VSS Writer. I have tried restarting the server already and that didn't help. Any tips? Event Viewer also gives me this at the time of the backup failure: 1) Application and Service Logs > Microsoft > Windows > Hyper_V-VMMS > Admin: Failed to fix-up absolute VHD paths in configuration of virtual machine 'VM Name': Account restrictions are preventing this user from signing in. For example: blank passwords aren't allowed, sign-in times are limited, or a policy restriction has been enforced. (0x8007052F). (Virtual machine ID AEB2B426-05DD-4C4F-AC8F-330B0D57B8D4) 2) Windows Logs > Application: A VSS writer has rejected an event with error 0x800423f3, The writer experienced a transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error may not reoccur. . Changes that the writer made to the writer components while handling the event will not be available to the requester. Check the event log for related events from the application hosting the VSS writer. Other details: The Hyper-V 2012 R2 OS has been separated from the VMs on the HD. OS is on C and the VMs are on D. VM backups continue to run perfectly fine from a Hyper-V 2008 R2 server. All servers mentioned are using the same storage device. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks everyone.5.7KViews1like20CommentsBackup Exec Become Very slow rate job after Windows Update
This is my third thread for the same problem in the same server, everytime that i make Windows Update, The job to Backup Mailbox Databases become very Slow. I have a server with 2008 R2 with backup exec 2010 R3 installed and four Hyper-V servers, CAS-HUB server, Mailbox Server, Blackberry Server and a DC server. i have two Backup job, one for Mailboxes Databases, and othet for the four Hyper-V, Mailboxes job run in the morning, and Hyper-V job run at night. Normally Mailbox job run between 5 and 6 hours, between 2600 and 3000 MB/s job rate for 600 GB of data. The other Job run between 5 and 6 hours, Between 3000 to 4000 MB/s for 900 GB of data. Everytime that i make Windows Update on the Phisical Server, the Mailbox job become very slow between 500 and 600 MB/s and it take between 19 to 20 Hours, i search in several forums, blog, tech support guides, and there isn´t solution for my case. The Jod to Backup Hyper-V dont have any problem, run normally. is OK is this occurs one or two times, but is everytime, i decided install Windows Update in the phisical server every four month, but this isn´t a correct security police in the company, my only solution when this happend is uninstall-reinstall the Backup exec Server, but i make the windows update last week-end, and i Unnistall-Reinstall 3 times and the problema continue. This time Unnistall-Reinstall dont solve my problem, and when i did this, i have to restat the server, wich i do early in the morning when nobody is using the email service. I dont know what else to do, Symantec support dont give any solution about this topic. If any body can help, the Backup is over LTO 4 tapes, Drivers are update, Backup Exec 2010 R3 full patches. Hi I'm back. After small issue to upgrade to backup exec 2012 sp1a, I have a very strange error. If I make a full backup of my virtual servers (CSV cluster), the backup to disk works just fine. But when the jobs start to make a duplication to tape, I receive an error saying 'An error was encountered writing to the on-disk catalogs'. the final error is The job failed with the following error: An error occurred while retrieving catalog information I found this article http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH53393 but it was no solution. The error is only generated on a particular server.5.3KViews1like10Commentsorphaned AVHDX Files after Hyper-V Guest Backup (Full/Inc)
I have two Hyper-V 2012 R2 Update 1 Host Server with several Hyper-V Guest (2012 R2, 2012, 2008). I use BE 2014 SP2 and do regular full backups and daily incremental backups of guests. Within the Virtual Hard Disks folder, a AVHDX File is created during the backup. These differential VHDX Files are created during running backup jobs. If i open the explorer at the Hyper-V Host i can see these files beeing created and merged after the the backup has finished. If i query the state of the VM guest with get-vmsnapshot servername i receive this information servername servername - Backup - (17.01.2015 - 09:20:33) Recovery 01.01.1601 01:00:00 not all, but some machines are showing the state Recovery and all these machines have growing AVHDX files. Some of these are backed up with a full backup only and some with incremental. The machine above has only a full backup once a week. Is this normal, that AVHDX files are remaining after a full backup or after a incremental backup? I can´t find any information in the whitepapers or knowledbase how the backup deals with the backup. Can someone explain how it is by design? Thanks JürgenSolved4.7KViews0likes4CommentsRestoring Active Directory to a different server Backup Exec 2014
Hello All I'm in the process of writing and testing a DR plan, but I have limited resources. I have an 2 Hyper-v Host one with a virtualised domain controller (vDC) and the second one is DR Hyper -V host. I've done GRT backups using the agents of the vDC but I want to restore to system state (with active directory) to the DR VM. Both Hyper-V hosts are on different networks but share the same media server. I'm not worried about hardware conficts as they are VMs or the Authoritative Restore as covered here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/cc961934.aspx But how do I get this data to the DR VM? Many Thanks Note: The DR VM is an older copy of the vDC with all the services and roles working.Solved4.1KViews2likes13CommentsFinal error: 0xe00084f8 - The network connection to the Backup Exec Remote Agent has been lost.
