Restoring Exchange or individual mailboxes/items using Backup Exec - HOWTO
Ithought Iwould share this with the forum, as Ihave seen some posts around this. I've had to restore individual mailboxes and emails for users since the move from ARCserve 11.5 to BackupExec 11D (and we are moving onto 12.5). Initially under the impression that this would be a simple process, Iwent about restoring from a particular date, and kept on running into errors with insufficient disk space. No matter what Itried, it wouldn't work.14KViews31likes32CommentsCompression - A short explanation
Every now and then, there would be an aggrieved user who feels that he was not given the full measure by his tape. For example, for LTO3 tapes, the label on the box specifies 400GB and he is not getting anything close to this. To add to the confusion, LTO tapes are often marketed with 2 capacities, e.g., LTO3 would be marketed as 800GB/400GB. What do all these numbers mean?2.3KViews16likes1CommentHow to leverage Backup Exec's Remote Console
We've gone through a process of removing all our site reps from the Domain Administrators group. The main issue for this was a security requirement to not allow them to have too much power. No sense in having them break anything on our servers to test our DR recovery capabilities.2.8KViews15likes18CommentsUsing Backup Exec with Hyper-V 2.0
Introduction Using Backup Exec to backup virtual environments that use Hyper-V 2 (Windows Server 2008 R2) as hypervisor may be not as simple as it first looks. In this paper I want to cover some of the reasons why partners and customers struggle getting reliable backups in those environments, especially when using clustered Hyper-V installations.8.4KViews14likes12CommentsHow to rotate external harddisks
With the cost of hard-disk dropping and capacity increasing, more and more installations are using them to store their backups, in place of the traditional tapes. Inevitably, users will ask: How do you to set up a scheme to rotate these external hard-disks, so that some of them can be brought off-site for insurance against a disaster?6.1KViews14likes33Comments- 9.7KViews12likes9Comments

Understanding GRT Backup and Restore functionality in Symantec Backup Exec
The simplest way to understand the granular restore functionality is to go through a simple step-by-step description of the way this works in each case. The primary differences to take note of are the differences between the backup-to-disk method and the backup-to-tape method.5.3KViews12likes12CommentsMoving from ARCserve 11.5 to Backup Exec 11D
Iwork on an outsource team on a very big client, who for a number of years had used ARCserve as their backup solution.A project was started just before Imoved across from another outsource client to see whether or not ARCserve needed to be replaced by another backup oackage, and if so, which it would be.240Views12likes0Comments
