I'm trying to do something that is dead simple, but frustratingly it's killing me... One little thing, just trying to backup and restore Windows Server 2012 R2 on an Intel i7 PC that's in UEFI mode with GPT partitions on a SATA SSD drive. Symantec System Recovery 2013 SP2 x64 v11.0.2.49853 has no problem going through the paces of restoring the backup, but afterward Windows fails to boot. I even went to the extent of wiping the C drive (and all the partitions), reinstalled WS2012 R2 Data Center GUI (nothing else except a network driver and SSR), backed up freshly installed WS2012 R2 to an external USB drive using SSR installed inside Windows, wiped the C drive (and all the partitions) and restored the backup, but all that effort didn't matter. PC still won't boot Windows. I also tried restoring the 100MB EFI Partition first, followed by the operating system and Recovery partitions, still no help. The only odd thing I see is inside the WinPE SRD, About - Symantec System Recovery Disk shows versions that seem old even though it was just extracted from the latest v11.0.2.49853 download zip file (although the SRD .iso file date of 12/15/13 is older than the SSR SP2 11.0.2 update that supposedly fixed UEFI problems). Do you see anything usual or something that I'm doing wrong? Please help because obviously I am unhealthily obsessed with this problem! ;-) Thanks! We have Symantedc System Recovery 2010/2011 across several sights, and we have noticed a common problem occurs where previous recovery points do not get cleaned up post backup as per the rules in the backup job. Is there anything else we can do to make this more robust without resorting to post backup scripts deleteing files as this will mess up SSR's recovery point history and run the risk of deleting the last good backup if the current backup fails. Currently we are aware of only 2 places we can automate this process, in the backup job you can set the amount of recovery points to keep, and in the manage backup destination/settings you can set a threshhold based on capacity. So for example if I am creating a backup files that is 350 gb (final compressed .v2i files), and I have set "Limit the number of recovery points for this backup" to 1, and set the "manage destination settings" to "monitor disk space usage for the backup storage" and set the threshold to 360 gb, also set to "auto matically optomise storage" Have I missed something here or is there a better way we should be doing this? From what I can see in the logs, at the point the process should be purging the previous days .v2i files SSR seems to think the backup device is unavailable (when it fails), however the backup device in this specific example is an Iomega NAS drive on a 1GB lan... I have SSR 2013 ver 11.0.1.47662 set to preform a new recovery point every Sunday and incremental backups Mon-Sat. I've set it to only keep 1 recovery set...however, once Sunday comes, the recovery set isn't cleaned up...instead incremental backups just continue. This is a problem for me because I have mulitple servers experiencing this and the backup location's disk space runs low resulting in backups failing. I've also googled around and found no real solutions other than it's a known issue: http://www.symantec.com/connect/issues/automatic-cleanup-recovery-points-not-working-consistently-which-causes-backup-destination-ru Is this still a known issue that i just have to manually keep fixing in System Recovery 2013???? Never had this problem in the previous versions. I've tried deleting the backup jobs and creating new, re-installing SSR...no joy.Solved3KViews1like20CommentsSymantec System Recovery 2013 r2 sp4 & Server 2008 r2 BSOD
I am backing up a Server 2008 R2 with Symantec System Recovery 2013 r2 sp4. The image backups fine. When we do a restore we get one of the following errors BSOD stop 7b, No operating system found, etc I have found this article on Microsoft and Veritas which talks about the C:\Boot files being located inside the image file. https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH125582 Within this article it talks about how it is backed up with the image of course, but when it is restored it is written twice: once by ASR Writer and then again by the image file with the end result of the GUID not matching. Here is Microsoft's explanation: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2261423 So then if the C:\Boot is located in the image file to exclude it when you do a restore of the image. Unfortunately I have no luck in trying to find out how to exclude this on a restore or even during a disk-based backup. Has anyone been able to resolve this issue? I have and currently working with Veritas but do not have a resolution. Please let me know. Thank you.2.9KViews0likes14CommentsSMTP Email notifications on a non-standard SMTP port
My ISP recently blocked all SMTP traffic on port 25, so I no longer receive my BESR reports via e-mail. I need to change Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 to use SMTP port 587, but this is not an option in the software. I searched the registry to try and find a way to adjust it, but came up empty handed. I tried using an SMTP server of mail.server.com:587, but that didn't work. I tried changing the default SMTP port for Windows (C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\services) and that didn't work... I got a blue screen of death when I tried to create a Symantec Recovery Disk using Norton Ghost 14.0. I use Windows XP - SP2. I had this problem twice. For the 2nd attempt I turned off Zone Alarm, Spyware Doctor and disconnected my Internet connection. All were on fir the 1st attempt. The error message on the first attempt did say I should turn off all virus software which could interfere. The message appearing on the blue screen of death is: Stop: 0X00000024. Otherwise Norton is running fine as I did a full "C" drive backup and a File and Folder backup. I did have to turn off copying bad sectors to get through the full "C" drive backup without any errors. Thus, it is possible that bad sectors on my hard disk may be interfering with the creation of the Recovery Disk. I placed the original Norton Ghost 14 System disk in the CD Drive and exited its splash screen after it activated. I ran the Create Recovery Disk process from my Norton Ghost 14 on my hard drive. Maybe I should have not exited the Norton startup splash screen. When I ran the process, program said I had drivers missing from the original Norton disk and said I should create a Symantec Recovery Disk. Is there anything I should do here to make it work? Thanks in advance for any help you can render.2.5KViews0likes12Comments
